AI makes me want to quit programming oh my god i fear most streamers are going to fall for vibecoded slop and get hacked in the next few years :(

We designed ekg.gg such that people literally can't use innerhtml even if they for some reason wanted to. Idk why other overlay sites let people have access to footguns

Reminds me of cryptobros claiming every coin/nft would go to the moon. An obviously untrue claim but it gets repeated and believed because it _must_ be true to justify the investment people already put into it.

It seems impossible to get a company to not act for profit. What I asked was targeted at how citizens and government can incentivize and offer tradeoffs such that the company's profit and the people's well-being are (mostly) aligned. As others brought up, that unfortunately requires good government

Fugi @fugi.tech · 10/05/2026
I didn't ask those questions because their answer seems obvious. "why does a company do [blank]?" is typically "for more profit". Why more data centers? They need more compute to sell Why build there? Because it's cheapest Why not improve the facility? They are, but only if it makes it cheaper

I'll be honest, I didn't even consider that they could literally just buy up old power plants. Yeah that seems like a big problem.

Fugi @fugi.tech · 10/05/2026
3. If companies ignore regulations then IMO we need to make the penalties much more severe. 4. Part of my hope was that if these data centers are demanding so much power and already cost billions, we could extract some of that money to build more renewable power and avoid restarting gas/coal plants

Fugi @fugi.tech · 10/05/2026
1. Yeah regulations working relies on a government who actually cares about people. Which may be too optimistic. 2. I honestly don't understand why companies want to build in stressed areas, or why governments let them. My expectation is we could just build datacenters elsewhere and be fine?
110
Fugi @fugi.tech · 10/05/2026
Yeah I don't understand why government would give datacenters preferential rates. IMO the datacenter should pay _more_ than others. And generators should be outright banned. And if the fines aren't working then they should be increased and/or jail time.

Fugi @fugi.tech · 10/05/2026
"Regulations get ignored" then I'd argue the regulations need stricter penalties. Like, what you quoted should result in people going to jail imo. But yes my logic does require governments to care. Which may be optimistic these days.

Fugi @fugi.tech · 10/05/2026
And obviously some places are not fit/equipped for datacenter buildouts and it shouldn't happen there. but idk, "no datacenters anywhere" doesn't seem like a great end-goal. But again this is a very naive take and I wish I understood it better.

Too much power use? Make datacenters pay a premium on electricity that goes to building more solar/nuclear power Too much water use? Apply regulations/fines on water use that makes evaporative cooling not viable Too much land use / heat generation? Regulate max size / output

I'm not a fan of AI, but I've been struggling to understand the criticisms of AI datacenters. And the extreme polarization of views makes it hard to find articles that don't feel heavily skewed. But it feels like most arguments against datacenters could be solved with better legislation?

Yeah this matches my current thoughts. Early on I got real mad about them because they'd break the site when we did updates and users would blame us instead, so it was a bit tense. But that improved a lot. Still hate 7tv though

Trying to migrate the Desert Bus blog from Ghost to an in-house solution. Requires converting a bunch of legacy HTML (including old Wordpress posts) to JSON block format. Gonna be staring at images like this for days...

I want to like Endfield so badly but I feel it actively tries to push me away. There's so many systems and dailies and it doesn't let you ignore anything to focus on what you like.

In the devkit: yes, you can customize each field by pressing the S next to the event button In the scene editor: no, the events are randomly generated. But for reward redemptions we automatically choose an id that triggers the widget.

Fugi @fugi.tech · 22/02/2026
Yeah we tried to be clear in our docs that persistence is mostly for saving across scenes during a stream github.com/ekggg/gettin... Tracking events between streams or when not-live likely requires some server-side parsing & state, which we haven't built yet. Would love to hear your ideas/thoughts!

Nah, I'm just one guy lol As the QRT said, I'm just not aware of any apps that offer the same API i'm using in Discord. I'm also waiting a bit to see where people end up.

yes, reactive will remain fully supported, but from what I've seen/heard it's in a fairly stable state right now. What issues are you having?

If you're a streamer or someone who makes widgets/overlays for streams, then Eric and I have just released a cool website that we hope will help you out! ekg.gg A full SDK and devkit for making widgets, a marketplace to buy & sell (or get for free) widgets, and a real-time scene editor.

If there is an app with an API that lets me get who is in a voice channel and if they are speaking, locally on a users PC, then I'm happy to support it. But afaik nothing but discord does.
