Is this gonna have the cut Hobbes stuff?

Koji Shiraishi is where you want to go if you're not there already. His direct to video series is fantastic.

Deeply worried about making enough / proving chronic illness or caretaking for Medicaid work requirements next year. Hasn't been looking good so far. Not sure how to solve this puzzle.

This has been driving me nuts as of late x.x

Free ad supported television, Tubi, Pluto etc. Most of their dedicated music video channels are retro stuff

Last one. youtu.be/SYrEGM_4qkU Views are waaaaaaaaay down on stuff like this, unfortunately. As someone who used to watch music videos to fall asleep for 30 years it's saddening.

IMuse vs orchestral is definitely a debate for the ages, one I've had when choosing which X-Wing variant to replay. Dark Forces has some very clever level design. Also that damn sewer level. Feels like the only thing new SW took from it was the Dark Trooper design.

Recently, the film "Tuner".

Hirai did recant his involvement later on - there's two cults here i'm talking about, Hirai is GLA, Twilight Zone is Aleph/AUM - but that was after Hirai wrote the GLA heir into a bunch of Genma Taisen x.x;;; Lady Miyako in Akira feels like a parody/response to that to me lol, but that's conjecture

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

That was about my reaction. Bit tough to balance tone with 'and then the artist did cute caricatures in other countries to teach himself!'. He had no direct involvement in these events, but they were needed for context.

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

In the thread itself I mention being immensely creeped out by the tone and jank of the cartoon Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea, but thinking on it I'm gonna go with "lady gets turned into a computer metal thing in Superman III" as the actual first thing I can recall

030

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

This isn't even the strangest thing I had to explain - i think that one goes to the "science fiction author gets involved with daughter of other cult leader that thinks she's the archangel Michael, writes her into his books, backs out later" I eft out that Rumiko Takahashi wrote about this event.

archive.org/details/2025... This collection of essays is a good illustrator of a moral panic that followed post attack. One of them is from the reporter that platformed the cult. The film "occult" clearly takes some reference from the essay. Tried to do a light essay and ran smack into this @.@

Walked smack into an unexpected answer as to why a magazine went under that a subject of a bonus video was a cover illustrator for. It was because the magazine gave Shoko Asahara a recurring column. The circumstances behind this are recounted in a book of essays I'll link in a moment.

110

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

I will say that after running smack into the whole "Twilight Zone Magazine platforming Aum Shinrikyo Guy" scandal and the relevant essays about it when researching the bonus video I now very much get what Koji Shiraishi's OCCULT was trying to reference.

110

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Don't worry, the Q&A will be out before the next public video :)

020

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Bonus video is up for relevant tiers and solicitation for Q&A questions is sent out. Have some minor life stuff to take care of, then work on the Halloween video will commence.

120

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

The oddlt janky animation, mismatched character designs (those pirates), and mournful tone of Spartakus and the Sum Beneath the Sea scared the crap out of kid me. Hell of a change from Danger Mouse.

011

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Video clips for bonus vid are finished and final touches on script are done, after continued emergencies kept pulling me away from it. Next step is to re-record final, add music, citations, and credits, and then it'll go up, along with the Q&A solicitation for Patrons.

020

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Yeah, it was rare for a while so that's prolly a Hong Kong VCD, but the longer cut was suddenly released by BCI with a nice new transfer in a Sonny Chiba boxset a while back and somehow got to Tubi from there. A strange path, but I'll take it - the longer cut is much better!

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Apologies, it is a port of the MSX software by the same company, Southern Create (usually subcontracted company).

My mistake, misread. It's fully compatible with ZStaff as per the back. Give me a sec to look into my scans to identify it more properly.

100

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Virus! There's a longer cut floating around streaming sites these days. The one on Tubi is the correct cut at 2 hrs 37min.

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

This happened to me with VHS tapes I thought were old game strategy tapes. Turned out they were hilariously cheap "win at casino" videotapes. They did have a surprising amount of video poker history, though.

000

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

It's a variation of the ZStaff programs, which are dumped, so I think folks didn't prioritize it

110

F_T_B @ftb1979.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Fairly certain this is an undumped one - it barely got mention in a LOGiN survey of graphics programs IIRC

Yet more hospital confusion with family heart surgeries. @_@. I like the cardiac ward a great deal but my family's problems always seem difficult to diagnose. I would like this constant barrage of emergencies to stop. It's been six weeks of this @_@

Yes, this is a self correction in that article series, collected here: www.mandarake.co.jp/restart/ Issue #1 states the (false) Beatles lyric thing. Issue #9 states the more accurate origin and talks a bit about FILCOM and CSK, as well as fishing game origin.

I think the common source of inspiration in public consciousness is Howard Carter's Tomb photos from the King Tut discovery, which inspired public perception and had a resurgence in the late 70s due to the museum tour of the artifacts (thus Steve Martin singing about him etc)

Howard Carter, coworkers, and assistants having dinner in the Tomb, a clearly very safe practice that will have no repercussions at all and not popularize a curse or anything

Still recovering from the constant hospital stay emergencies for my folks over the last month. The pressure from the storm isn't helping much. Stay safe out there, chronic illness/neuropathy folks - the air feels like a press.
