We were too worn out to think to photograph what we ate at La Flotille at Versailles but our mains weren't that visually interesting. Public Health Reports Highest Number of West Nile Virus Cases in Nearly a Decade
Public Health Urges People to Take Immediate Steps to Prevent the Spread of Mosquito-Borne Illness
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is reporting 100 cases of West Nile virus infections so far this year, marking the highest number of cases seen this early in the mosquito season in nearly a decade. With mosquito season still underway, the County is on track for one of its most severe West Nile virus seasons in recent years. The last time case numbers reached this level was in 2017, when 268 cases were reported for the entire season.

Public Health urges people in Los Angeles County to protect themselves from mosquito bites and take steps to eliminate standing water around their homes and other areas where mosquitoes can breed.

Of the cases reported this year, almost all have had severe illness. This is expected because milder infections often go undiagnosed and are not usually reported. These severe illnesses affect the brain or spinal cord, and almost all patients have needed hospital care. Five deaths have been reported. Cases have occurred throughout Los Angeles County.

“West Nile virus can cause serious illness, and the number of severe cases and deaths we are seeing this year is concerning,” said Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, Los Angeles County Health Officer. “We are still within the peak period for West Nile virus transmission, so it is important that everyone take steps now to protect themselves and their families. These include using insect repellent, eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed, and making sure windows and doors have tight-fitting screens without holes or tears. Small actions like these can make a big difference in preventing illness.”

PSA: If you're in a hetero marriage and you're a woman, don't pay the IRS electronically. For non-Americans: The IRS has an archaic policy that the "taxpayer" for the household must be the man. The wife is the "spouse" and cannot be the household taxpayer. Misogynist shithole country.

I called when the phone lines opened this morning at 7am, was on hold for an hour and a half, and just concluded the phone call for a total of 2 hours and 10 minutes spent on the call. The IRS worker said that because I paid as the spouse and not the "taxpayer" (man), the payment went to my personal account as an "overpayment" and not towards what was owed.

The majority of the time on the call was spent with the IRS worker saying her software would not permit her to transfer the balance to the joint filing account and she had to ask a manager for help, she was very flustered. Finally at the end of the call, she confirmed she was able to transfer the balance, that we were clear, and the interest should "drop off."

Suffice to say I will never pay the IRS electronically again, as I've never had this problem when sending physical checks.

I was the only person I saw at the Tori Amos show in Dolly Parton drag, whoops.

The only hope I have of taking photos at The Greek from where we sit is of the screen but it's much better than what my phone's poor zoom could do. Her singing voice is gone, but Tori's gonna keep playing piano till her fingers fall off, and that's fine.

Literally no one else in rhinestones or blue eyeshadow, what the fuck ears with feet, you let me down. Don't worry the haunted Victorian doll hair is not long for this world. Neither are the microbangs, I feel like I have tiny spiders on my forehead, never again.

Whew! It wasn't the groomer. Which I didn't think it was because how could we not have noticed a bloody stump since Friday??? Because what was left were jagged nasty fragments, vet determined dog just ripped it off while running around. Had the stump dremelled, cone life for a week. Pobrecita. 😭

Because it's always something with this dog, I picked up this soft cone from Chewy. It's really nice and comfortable, better than a hard plastic cone she can't navigate with and will inevitably use to battering ram the cats.

A lucky shot of Ellie Livingston of Die Spitz. I'd never seen anyone use the side platforms at The Fonda. Now I have! They have so much fun live, killer performers and stage presence. I'm really happy the kids have guitar heroes, especially a wild pack of young women.
