Friend of mine made one of me wife's undead high elf paladin almost a year ago, complete with the skin crackles. He's a bit on the fresher side appearance wise, but he did die (and die a second time at that. He got better.)

Amani's time to fade. There will be other people. They are entities of Life. Life continues, even after other lives die. The Loa enjoy the love of the Amani, but they ultimately do not need it, and if the risk is sudden and violent annihilation over slow, steady decline, they choose the latter.

In other words, the Loa are traumatized into not wanting any kind of war with outsiders and being ok with just letting Amani territory shrink because the Amani were beaten so badly the last time that they see this as the best of two bad options. The Amani either figure themselves out or die out.

My theory is that the Loa backed the Amani during the Troll Wars. The trolls lost that, the Loa decided that expansionism was more harmful than good, then refused Zul'jin when he wanted to expand the borders even if they were historically originally Amani lands.

Give 'The Horror at Red Hook' a miss, though. By the admission of the man himself, it's one of his worst stories. It's disappointing, and for ones such as myself that believe Lovecraft might have achieved a personal redemption had he lived long enough, a regrettable addition to his legacy.

The linework on this one is tricky to pull off. You did well in considering the way the skin folds and curves would shift the composition of the tattoo. Add the gritty mood that the coloration adds, and you've got yourself a nicely-done piece.

My favorite is 'The Thing on the Doorstep'. It doesn't have big monsters, just an extremely well-executed story about loss of identity, abusive relationships, crushing expectations, friendship, and the will to defy the inevitable.
