As a client side NON-web developer, when I saw that it's a JavaScript SDK, I audibly groaned. Then when I read *this* on the official page on Ableton's site, I groaned even louder.

An FAQ on Ableton's website:

Do I need to be a developer to build an Extension?

The SDK is built on standard web technologies that AI coding assistants handle well. If you can clearly describe your idea for an Extension, you may be able to build a working Extension with AI assistance, without any coding experience.

As I was typing that last post... success! Keyboard works, touchpad feels WAY better than before, all is right with the world. And for it to work on first boot after reassembly is a testament to the FANTASTIC guide that the team at @frame.work put together.

Alright, a bit of radio silence to get finicky bits in -- mini coaxial connectors for antenna cables are no joke! But we got there, assembly has begun! All the rest should be smooth sailing, just lots of components with pogo pins :)

The mainboard and WiFi card are back in the new bottom case, and all the cables are connected.

A little untangling of cables and six (admittedly non-captive) screws, and... the laptop is magically in two! Time to check out the new bottom cover and see if there's anything left to transfer...

Speakers, power button, and WiFi card removed, display and webcam cables disconnected, and finally the mainboard itself is lifted out. One of the most shocking things -- EVERY screw so far is captive, including on the mainboard. No organizer needed!

Case is mostly empty, surrounded by the components described in the post.

Okay okay this is really fucking cool. The audio board that handles routing between the headphone jack and the speakers? Connected ENTIRELY WITH POGO PINS. No wires at all! One screw and it comes right out.

Expansion cards get removed, then 8 captive screws on the bottom release the keyboard and touchpad, which lift out to reveal the internal components. Six more screws, and the battery lifts straight out -- no glue, no hassle. This will be effortless to replace when the battery gets old.

My fully repairable @frame.work Laptop 12 needs its bottom cover and keyboard/touchpad replaced, which means a full disassembly of the whole bottom half of the machine! Very excited, if slightly nervous; let's put the promise of repairable electronics to work!

Last year, during a power outage, I did this little crafting project featuring all the badges of all the cons/events I've ever been at, in chronological order. Because of this, I now have this little ritual of coming back home after a con, pinning up the new badge, and taking a moment of gratitude.
