10. More great scenarios to pick! Also in the corebook: old friends in a holiday house learn something lurks outside... members of a Hollywood cult race to find a runaway... an appointment in a run-down building gets very bloody... a rock band gathers to play a demon song for a tech billionaire...

9. Improv is on the table! Horror is unpredictable, especially when you add players. #FiveEvil will not let you down. When you need to improvise, use the built-in oracle check that links to the core systems of desperation and intensity. Sometimes it even creates a happy outcome... sometimes.
I’VE GOT NO SIGNAL!
Isolation is a powerful way to create a situation of horror.
However, in the era of the mobile phone, isolation is
much harder to achieve. Here are some ideas for how to
manage mobile phones in your games.
• The setting is so remote there is no signal.
• The premise deprives characters of their phones.
(‘This is an exclusive preview event, hand in your
phones at the desk then get in the bus…’)
• Bad weather or foreign hackers take down the cell
network.
• The supernatural force you are facing can disrupt
or control mobile phones. (They call emergency
services, but the voice at the other end says he’s
the devil.)
• Mobile phones become a hindrance and the
characters have to dump them. (The murder wasps
are attracted to the radiation emitted by your
phones!)
• Whoopsy, you dropped your phone in the river.
(This one’s a great Evil…)

8. Scenario design is dead simple! The guidance in FiveEvil makes it easy to assemble your own perfect scenario, your way. It walks you through every step for you to trap the player characters in a terrifying challenge created just for them. It will be a highlight of their year.
Scott Purdy art! A montage illustration of a hideous multi armed creature with a massive mouth, roaring or screaming. 7. There's no combat system! FiveEvil views tactical calculations, initiative ordering, and attack actions as the opposite of horror. Instead, when monsters get close, we enter Terror Rounds, where you struggle to retain control of yourself and every time you move, the horror responds.
Terror
encounters
An encounter with the horrors depicted in this game is never neat
and tidy. True horror rips apart the normal order of things, leaving
death and destruction in its wake.
Beginning a terror
encounter
A terror encounter begins when the characters are faced with a
dangerous and terrifying situation. As soon as that happens, start
the encounter as follows, then proceed to the first terror round.
1. Introduce the situation
First, the GM describes the terrifying intrusion that begins the
terror encounter. Asking questions as needed, they also:
• establish who is part of the encounter and roughly where
they are
• establish if anyone is surprised or prepared
• if needed, update the Intensity score to at least 4.
2. Terror saves
Every character makes a Terror saving throw to deal with
this sudden onset of terror without freezing up. Make either a
Dexterity save or a Wisdom save (player choice).
• Those who succeed are able to react to the threat. Those who
fail are frozen or slow and get no reaction, and any action they
were engaged in is stalled until their turn in the terror round.

Greens announce reforms to lower commercial rents, fill empty shops
Morgan Davie • Just now
This sounds like a very targeted change, so small businesses actually get freedom to negotiate fairly.
From the article: "Current commercial leasing rules let rents rise when the market goes up and hold them up when it goes down. Small businesses end up paying more than the market rate when consumer spending slows down."
Sounds like a really smart change to help small business owners and communities, nice one.

Wakefield House is ready to run, with pregenerated characters, just the right level of drama, and some truly scary twists and turns. It's all those 1980s horror flicks with teenagers, and also all those 2020s horror flicks with teenagers, and you get to make it your own.
Wakefield House: a scary house at night, and a collection of teenagers ready to get themselves into enormous trouble

5. 'Wakefield House' is in the FiveEvil corebook. Messed-up teens get a sudden message from their friend who disappeared a year ago: *Meet me in Wakefield House at midnight. Don’t tell anyone else. Miss you guys.* Of course they go. And it gets scary, fast. Wish them luck.
Section of a page from the FiveEvil book.
Chapter Three
Scenario: Wakefield House
You thought Kyle was dead. Everyone did, he’s been missing a year, what else could have happened? But now
he’s back in the group chat, asking to meet in an old empty house. Yeah, you’ll be there at midnight. You
gotta find out if it’s really him. And if it is, maybe you’ll finally get to say sorry.

2. For GMs, FiveEvil is easy to learn and really simple to run. You control the Intensity (like deciding when the music gets scary). Players track their own Desperation (grabbing it like a lifeline). Tension and terror take care of themselves while you focus on the story.

1. This is a horror game that's actually like horror movies. It's not dark fantasy, not an action adventure with horror elements, not a parody of horror movies. All those things are great! But that's not this. FiveEvil is razor-focused on making a true horror story for your group to love.

All I'm asking for is one faithful adaptation of the novel. Carrie isn't a hero guys, a vigilante telling the bullies what's ehat. She's a cornered animal that has known nothing but abuse her entire life, unrelenting, unwavering abuse. When she finally snaps it isnt some heroic moment. It's the boiling point of one woman's trauma, leading to her own demise.

Note how Stuff picked this up as a story: they received a few emails. That's it, that's all it took. By making a story and doing a poll they validate the trolling: "this is indeed a concern sensible people might have!" and so, a RW troll's abusive and ignorant hate is laundered into 'news'.
Russell’s act of knitting prompted some feedback into Stuff’s inbox. One of them said “I’m outraged at the footage of a Labour MP knitting in Question Time. These people!!! Knitting!!!!”.Poll: Is it ok for MPs to knit in the house? - 31,921 votes, 54% yes585 comments

I was most interested in playing with balancing the Doctor and companions in D20. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer TTRPG had managed it, but D20 was a much crunchier recipe.) My solve was a narrative currency that reduced as you went up levels, and eventually flipped into a source of problems.

30% OFF for @drivethrurpg.com XMAS IN JULY! The City Adventure Handbook is where I share secrets from my home game that make #DnD city adventuring easy & fun! Includes guidance for loads of specific city activities, making them incredibly easy to DM. www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/4...
Cover of the City Adventure Handbook, 5E compatible game supplementStirring up trouble
If you aim to transform a neighbourhood into a
seething mess of anger, recrimination, and
vengeance, then you’ll need to step carefully and
whisper the right words into the right ears.
Use Persuasion if you’re making use of offenses
and misdeeds that really happened, and Deception
if your trouble-making strays into invention.
Describe exactly how you go about this, because
the details might come back to bite you...

Difficulty
Easy (10) The neighbourhood is already simmering with
disputes and suspicions.
Medium (15) The neighbourhood has notable rivalries and
frustrations that sometimes boil over.
Hard (20) The neighbourhood is settled and, by and large,
presents a united front to the world.
Very Hard (25) The neighbourhood is notably fair-minded and
supportive of each other.
Nearly
Impossible (30)
The neighbourhood’s residents are enthusiastically
loyal to each other and will always give each other
the benefit of the doubt.

Result
Success You cause trouble in the neighbourhood, bringing
disputes into the open and building suspicion and
dislike on all sides.
Just missed The DM selects a stumble for you, but also, you cause
plenty of trouble just as you intended.
Failure The neighbourhood seems immune to your
manipulations.
Big failure The neighbourhood remains untroubled by your
efforts, and you stumble.

Stumbles
Pulled in You get dragged into the trouble you’re making. One
side (or both) decides you are allied with their
opponents, giving you a new set of enemies.
Figured out Someone figures out that you are deliberately
setting the neighbourhood up for trouble. The DM
decides who works it out, and what they do about it.
Lesson time You whisper the wrong thing into the wrong ear,
earning a nasty and sudden lesson in keeping your
mouth shut. (Roll an encounter.)
Out of control The trouble you were anticipating spreads in
unexpected directions, affecting people you never
thought would be hurt and escalating to problematic
heights of disruption.
