Wake up, babe.. new testimonial just dropped.
"Working with Amanda is one of the best decisions I made for my manuscript to get it ready for querying. Her expertise and outside view helped me identify plot holes and continuity issues that I didn't catch on my own or with support from my critique group. She was quick, responsive, and encouraging throughout the entire process. I appreciated how thorough she was in her critique. Not only did she provide suggestions, but she also explained her rationale, which really demonstrated her expertise in the craft of storytelling and helped strengthen my skills. Several months after working with Amanda, my debut novel was under contract with an indie publisher. Amanda, I can't thank you enough. You really know how to make manuscripts shine!"
-- Testimonial provided by debut author Emily Babbitt. Her novel "Called From Darkness" will be published in 2027

You’re going to want to save this post if you’re editing your novel. My favorite diagnostic tool is a 3-act structure because Freytag’s Pyramid is the lowest common denominator for strong Western stories.

Sharing my thoughts on editorial green flags and what new authors should look for before confirming a freelance editor. If you've had a positive or negative experience with an editor, will you share your perspective in this thread?

You're thinking that's a made up number, right? I'm probably lowballing it. For 12 years straight I've read an average of 16 scripts/books/proposals a week and had to summarize the plot to determine whether to acquire, finance, or produce these projects. 12 years x 52 weeks x 16 projects = 9,984.

#Authors #Writers if there was a program where you could get matched with a small group of other writers in a similar position as you (think: all querying, all moms, all publishing books this year, etc.) with a goal of creating community and helping each other find success. Would you be interested?

The best tool to help you summarize your book is the simplest story structure chart. #querying #authortips #writingtips

#Authors if you've ever used Wavemaker to draft or outline, do you like it? I'm trying out their Snowflake method right now and I'm finding it to be a little counter-intuitive. Planning to stick with it and explore their other tools. If you've never heard of Wavemaker here's a preview:

Incredibly sexy for a perfect, bite-size spicy novella. Fascinating and fan(g)tastic. Ok, that's enough. But if you're in the mood for classical music, vampires, and if a little light stalking doesn't turn you off -- check out Nocturne in Red by K. I. Tolles releasing on 4/22. #bookrec #booktropes

My biggest tip for writers who hire freelance editors: DO NOT be afraid to push back on the editorial notes if they're unnecessarily subjective. I'm talking, nothing deeper than "this is boring" or "I'm not connecting with X" -- if they can't articulate why or give you actionable solutions, RUN!
