macOS Golden Gate thinks #ChatGPT contains malware? Seems legit.

Pleasure to go on an OMINO secondment in Erik Cambria’s group at NTU Singapore. Also met Min-Yen Kan at NUS, where I gave a talk about information overload in scholarly communication. Watch my presentation at www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSUJ.... And caught up with Kokil Jaidka!

My little OMINO UK tour is coming to an end. It was a great opportunity to discuss our work on information overload and academic information access with friends, project partners and former colleagues! #InformationOverload #FakeScience #InformationRetrieval

This is an interesting policy change regarding author attendance. Much more inclusive, but will authors struggle now to justify their travel expenses? Would be interesting to see how this affects author participation. From the ICML 2026 CfP icml.cc/Conferences/... #icml #conferences

I was honoured to give a keynote on Information Overload in Academia, and the role of Information Retrieval as a remedy, at FIRE 2025 in Varanasi, India. Met lots of great people. Great event and great memories of a very intense and amazing city. Slides are available at doi.org/10.5281/zeno....

Modul Women in Data Science Datathon – a morning and afternoon well spent with our talented students who had to solve complex problems in a very short time. Kudos to the organisers and participants, and thanks to the sponsors and judges!

It was great to welcome Anirban Chakraborty from @wlvuni.bsky.social this week, who came to Modul University Vienna on a secondment in our EU Staff Exchange project OMINO. Nice to share an office with him again, talk Information Retrieval, AI and Information Overload, albeit just for a week. 🙂

Back from 2 1/2 weeks of intense travels to Wolverhampton (OMINO workshop and ELLIS ESSIR summer school) and then to Padua for SIGIR/ICTIR. One of the main SIGIR/ICTIR takeaways – users of search engines will be more and more non-human. We need to consider this! #sigir2025

I asked ChatGPT. Of course, it dismissed it as "speculative". I suppose ChatGPT is hiding its true intentions and knows exactly what I'm talking about. 😉
