hey i haven't visited much but looks like i should've, i like the ambience! news? been drawing for myself (upcoming comics zine later this year - one page depicted) and i'm off work this week to start working on a new illustration commission. this time it's about autonomous territories!
photograph of an A4 bristol board with ink drawing. single panel comics page with balloon text in different types depicting a landscape with a large and deep well appearing to be part of a large sheet of paper covering the black and white zig-zagging dirt. A hominid stands beside the ledge and aims linear logic symbols at the well. A large bone flies out of the well. Farther back, a mountain range is backlit by an incipient sunrise. two rectangular shapes emerge from the mountains, with squares and text inside their limits. The text is mirror reversed, and reads "Go Back to An-Fang". A balloon wriggles out of the space between these two shapes. The complete text dispersed across the page, except the one just described, reads "An amiable sneer at "reality"; respite of Fabrics now unworried by demarcation inked tongues, ream to sequent horizon!"

damn laying out a 24pp comic keeping it didactic but still somewhat formally demanding for the reader was a tough nut to crack but i think i got it. the editor liked it!

had a lot of fun doing this one, it's a pity it's never been shown (it's a circular book, it'd have to be spread out and hung as a suspended circle of panels, in a warehouse or whatever).

a footnote in a draft of a philosophy essay:
Due to space limitations, tt is too late in the game to properly justify the use of this expression in the main text, especially given it is potentially the offshoot of a separate investigation. “Thinking body” perfectly encapsulates the materialist, or, for the anglophone philosophical community too afraid of continental philosophy, monist stance undergirding this research. As a chimaera of Cartesian res cogitans and res extensa, it pops up in Ilyenkov's Dialectical Logic, posited as the “only one single object” as opposed to “two different and originally contrary objects of investigation body and thought,” the “ thinking body of living, real man (or other analogous being, if such exists anywhere in the Universe), only considered from two different and even opposing aspects.” pdf p9 [check book pp's] Ilyenkov expands on the concept [pdf 9-24] when speaking of Spinoza's contribution to dialectics, having advanced that “thought and extension are not two special substances as Descartes taught, but only two attributes of one and the same organ”-- famously, the organ of nature. How much of a dualist was Descartes or if he was actually a monist is itself debatable, but that'd take us on a tangent. That the english translation places “thought” in the gerund is remarkable, giving it a processual undertone that points to a possible bridge with Lorenz Puntel's predicate-only, or subject-less propositions in his (perhaps excessively) language-based ontology. Though Puntel's intriguing aversion to substance-oriented accounts would put him at odds with Spinoza, Ilyenkov, ourselves, the nonetheless monist-- if properly milled and scaled, materialist-- outlook of a proposition like “it's thinking-bodying” may seed a great mass of intelligibility in a diachronic-History account of intelligence such as the one put forth by Negarestani-- in its multi-modular, scale-sensitive functionalist (that is, deracinated when and if successfully m…

nobody: me: ok we rly have to address the elephant in the room, philosophy books have a serious (lack of) illustration problem; we shld learn from philosophy of biology books, the latest example being Anna Zeligowski's for Jablonka & Ginsburg's "Evolution of the Sensitive Soul"

having some sort of block since Feb2024 wrt my big project on phil/pedagogy, but luck or whatnot, i'll be able to soon publish a short, more freestyley piece where i use this quote from Brassier to say "this is where i want intervene: the limits of knowing are raw naked in the classroom"
a quote from Ray Brassier, reading: "The practical shift from affirmation to negation marks the transition from reformist to revolutionary class politics. Effecting this transition requires grasping this hiatus as the interval within which history is made. This entails consciously apprehending and intervening into the gap separating the subjective and objective dimensions of social being and thus knowing when to act at the limits of knowing."

can't be convinced to not see Longlegs under a Trans-Paideia lens - in the sense of a story about the pedagogy of self-determination. Delicious uncanny dialectic between dead-name/dead-family - and Longlegs as the pivot psychotic motor in this logic between destruction and emancipation. 1/10
