So, the Minnesota ore will get to Iowa how? And the finished steel product will get to market how? Usually enterprises such as this need proximate access to a deep-water port (Duluth, e.g.). Because steel and ore generally travel on...ships. Iowa may be a very nice place. But it's landlocked.

Yeah, this 'ad' is basically what ad people would call a 'rip-o-matic'. It's a concept- and communication-free junior-editor-gone-wild'.quick-cut of 'The Man Himself' intercut with jets on high and such, backed by a song they didn't pay for which intones 'Love me'. Also, anti-communism!

Got it all. State of the world in 19 words conveying: a) US Incompetence v. Global rival, 2) Mil/Indus complex reliance, 3) Lax standards of late-stage capitalism, 4) Security threats therein, 5) Impotence of US currently, 6) frayed alliances... Could go on, but the post text sums it up.

Thing about this - and even Trump oughta know - any visual media production is collaborative. Many skills, trades, etc. People listen, but often challenge 'the director's' whims professionally, to make something worth watching. So, anything where EP/Director/Writer/Star is 'Trump' will fail.

@markhurst.bsky.social , maybe time to have Faine back on the show and REALLY FREAK PEOPLE OUT. Just a suggestion. Great show, BTW.

Common sense: Should Alberta ever choose to exit Confederation, they must leave with the territory of which they consisted upon entrance. And that's not a lot - barely past 'Fort Edmonton'. But this must be the case, as a) ya leave with what ya brought and, b) to ensure contiguous CDN integrity.

Thinking a lot about how Metalllica's IP lawyers basically sought to ruin a kid or 2's lives over downloading 'Enter Sandman' (or whatever crappy, overwrought song) on Napster 25 years ago. Then thinking about those lawyers, today, jockeying to invest in whatever AI startup they can. Principled!

Hard to tell what's real and what's 'marketing' but sending Harry Potter out there to warn of existential doom seems less like the former than the latter.

Sapporo bought Sleeman (okay beer) which makes this very awkward for Guelph. One of the oldest CDN breweries is now a casualty iof the ongoing stupidity. Sleeman is likely a doomed brand in Canada (though they've risen from the grave before).

As a non-US observer, it seems it ought to be trivially simple to make these abominations emblematic of the greater rot. Why they do not is baffling.

One assumes he's speaking of the gentleman pictured below?
Jeffrey Epstein on his infamous island. He's in the forefront, wearing all white. Two steps behind him is current U.S. Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, wearing white shorts and a blue shirt. Assorted flunkies are at right and in the background.

At the end of our street is a bridge that takes you to the shores of Lake Ontario. 4 min. walk. At the crest of the bridge, on a clear day, you can see the American side. Faintly, but you can see it. Even from there you can see that this guy is gutless and useless in the moment to be met.

All this blah-blah about 'politeness' misses a crucial point: Canadians are largely polite to each other because we know that, if not, a murderous donnybrook is the likely consequence. It's a dark heart up here. Glad to have a distraction from hammerin' on each other, TBH. Enjoy yer RFKirrhea.

Could be wrong, but all assessments of Greer are that he's a tough, but thoroughly professional trade guy. Here, it seems he's being a 'good soldier', sent out bolster the WH bluster. Lutnick is apparently the one who blew shit up (with a little reacharound from the formerly-incarcerated Navarro).

He's an idiot, for certain. But somehow he managed to get out of the Cantor-Fitzgerald offices before the planes hit. So, like all the weasels n; badgers in Admin47, he's a cunning MFer. Unlike weasels n' badgers though, when things get fast - as they can be - he'll be slow.

Given Jason Stanley's fairly thorough refutation of the attacks on Mr. Arday and its attendant ripping of the journalism involved, one might revel in Cofnas' attaining the 'FO' phase of his adventures. All in all, much to reflect on here. But only consequences will make any 'race realist' do so.

A well-worn sales/marketing axiom is 'Undersell, over-deliver'. Good rule of thumb, generally. What these guys are saying is worse than the reverse of that. And 'Join or die' is not very persuasive. Plus, if you look at the messaging there's lots of 'could', 'potential', 'predict' etc. Amateurs.

Gonna have to be an adaption of Wallace Steven's '13 Ways of Looking At A Blackbird'. 2 stanzas a season with the 7th being the big climax that leaves 'em wanting more. That or Gilgamesh.

Prepared to be strictly corrected on this, but this research Mr. DeLong highlights- and big leap here - suggests that 'flow' is more important to human success than 'permanence'. If one thinks it through, it *should have* a tremendous effect on rational policy discourse/theory. In many areas.

Hey, 'Compliant Technologies LLC of Lexington, Kentucky' (JFC), why not just give the goons what they really need: A backpack that springs 'dazzle tentacles' which can take down 8-10 targets with only 'minimal lethality'. Compliant Technologies is slacking on the Torment Nexus Agenda! Unpatriots!

Testing the new quote post regs! This whole thread is snarkish and cutting. But this one segment - last 2 words, in fact - stood out: 'the bookbinders'. These goons are basically buying books, scanning them, then 'Library of Alexandra-ing' them. Who else destroyed books on purpose? Just asking.

The current media landscape is so fragmented, obfuscated and outright compromised that the absolute venality, incompetence, cowardice and corruption of One Special Boy cannot be clearly and directly reported or explicated to the citizens he somehow leads. Press needs a rethink. This cannot hold.

Is Danielle Smith a sociopath? Maybe not, but look into who she learned from. BC fires are a predictable outcome/effect of her 'advocacy for Alberta's interests'.
Image: Danielle Smith speaking at a podium with an oddly aggreeable Mark Carney in the BG

Sociopath? She did, after all, learn at the knee of some of Canada's most regressive academics (Bercuson, Morton, Knopf, Cooper) like Tom Flanagan. Having met the last, he could probably teach sociopathy.

BC fires are an effect of her 'advocacy for Alberta's interests'.

While a car dealership magnate, ideally, has no place in the august chamber, a son-in-law holding, nay, tantalizing, potentially egregious bits about him has no place in the people's house. The GOP is mob deep and this guy just kinda mookishly spits it all out. Wild.

I wonder if, when this floor-filler was released, people were surprised to learn it was Gay Techno? (j/k,) There were loads of absolutely and explicitly anthemic bangers of the sort at the time. ('Work It To The Bone' comes to mind.) It was basically a community-initiated genre.

Sounds like this is his moronic understanding of EMALS (Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems), deployed on USS Gerald Ford. The previous 'steam powered' catapults have many defenders in the Pentagon. This glossolalia seems a kind of 'explanation' of those circumstances. Not helping, tho.

This whole thread (laudatory) is proof of concept that William Goldman's Hollywood adage that 'No one knows anything' is, if nothing else, 'multi-disciplinary. 'Many people don't know that', he said, uttering something everybody knows. Doomed by the dumb (yes, there is a 'b'), are we.

John Mills Cockell, the driving force in Syirnx (sorry, other guys) was a synth pioneer. Like Wendy Carlos and other visionaries of the time, he took the Moog and (to some extent) the Buchla into sonic spaces the creators of these new instruments likely didn't imagine.
