What I've read is, McDonald's owns the land and building. They were finding franchisees poorly managing the business, or it's in an area hit by another business shutdown. So when it's time to rent or sell, if it looks like a McDonald's, but a bank wants that corner...it was cheaper to go basic blah.

No, it's the new corporate model for a lot of chain fast food joins. They found that it's cheaper for new owners to remodel to a bank or hardware store when the FF franchisee goes bankrupt. KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and others are getting "generic" makeovers. Novelty is expensive.

No good gop reps. Smattering of Dem reps (like Turek), 37 out of 100. I assume they're decent, but I don't know for sure. But the last good gop rep I can remember was Jim Leach, and he retired in 2007. I voted for him whenever he was my district rep.
