And then when the attack hitbox connects I trigger a function on the enemy to calculate the knockback velocity using the difference in the hitbox and enemy's position to get the direction they should go (normal vector) and then apply distance and any modifiers

Thanks! I used a sort of damping function on the velocity every physics process that exponentially decreases the magnitude based on delta and then applies the correct direction after rounding the X and Y to nearest whole numbers (avoids the issue of getting extremely close to 0 but not actually)
