Incredible things happening in the group chat
Screenshot from Whatsapp where I say: "Who is Dominic Toretto if not a modern-day Odysseus"

And a friend says: "Odysseus: 'I take life one stadion at a time'"

City Cast Pittsburgh giving me flashbacks from the Pittsburgh twitter trenches with today's "13 best pizza joints" episode
Tweets I made on October 7, 2022, threaded together:

The group chat is fighting because I am stubbornly insisting that it is difficult to find a good pizza in Pittsburgh

Clarification the group chat is fighting with me, specifically. Important background: all my family is from the tri-state area and half are Italian-American

I want to be clear that I said difficult! Not impossible! There are pizzas here that I am fine with and pizzas I even love! I am making a list of places to try though

I'm not saying it's not an issue that white Americans generally don't see the US as a settler/colonist nation, but let's not pretend like there aren't living communities in the US that aren't battling to tell the histories of how this very government terrorized them, here
Ben Coates
‪@bencoates1.bsky.social‬

It’s surely relevant that the US has never been invaded in its homeland, while west Europeans have seen their towns reduced to rubble by invaders within current lifetimes.
Americans don’t seem to see that for Europeans, border disputes aren’t a funny distraction; they’re a matter of life and death

Think the Americans in general and the Trump administration in particular has savagely misjudged how Europeans feel about territorial sovereignty. It’s on an entirely different level of importance from economic security and there is almost no chance Greenland will be surrendered without bloodshed.

Harvie.

I worked in their warehouse and even after they failed yet another safety and health inspection last summer, they are still somehow in business . They advertise that they only source form small and local farms and businesses when at least half of their stuff is sourced from out of state and bigger businesses. I’m talking berries from Driscolls and other produce from California and Mexico.

NEVER order meat from there . Or really any frozen food. The “freezer” is never frozen. Stuff is constantly thawing out , including the raw meat , and the owners just have people ship it out anyway. There are also a ton of safety violations such as no dock plates between building and trailers when unloading and employees having to work in extreme temperatures with no breaks . There was a gas leak in the building earlier this year and several of the employees reported feeling sick and lightheaded . The owners didn’t give a shit and just told everyone to keep working because the boxes had to get out .

The owners are 2 tech guys that know absolutely NOTHING about running a business. They use to have a thing called “shop” every Friday where they would let the employees take home any left over food that would go bad over the weekend . This helped out a lot of people with saving on groceries due to inflation and also the fact that Harvie doesn’t pay a livable wage . Well guess what? They took that away in order to do their “mystery boxes” for customers . A box that they charge customers some outrageous price to get random left over crap that they either can’t sell or is about to go bad. Speaking of prices , everything is outrageously priced. I never understood why people even bought from this place in the first place when they could go to the store and find the same things for a third of the price.

Bc Lacrimosa
The lyrics of Mozart's Lacrimosa

Lacrimosa dies illa,
qua resurget ex favilla judicandus homo reus.
Huic ergo parce, Deus, pie Jesu Domine,
dona eis requiem.
Amen.

That day of tears and mourning,
when from the ashes shall arise, all humanity to be judged.
Spare us by your mercy, Lord, gentle Lord Jesus,
grant them eternal rest.
Amen.

One of their events popped up on my feed, so I followed them because it sounded very sweet, and then I realized it said "20-somethings" in the bio, and immediately unfollowed
The header of @pghsocialclub's Instagram page, which includes their profile picture, # of publications, # of followers, and #of followed accounts. Their bio reads "LET'S BE SOCIAL! A space for 20 something's to make friends and create connections Sign up for our next event here!"

One of my European years I made Thanksgiving dinner for ten Belgians. They had seconds and thirds. Sorry but your American friend can't cook
Screenshot of a skeet with the following text:
I’m gonna clock in at the Hater HQ for a sec and say the way USians talk about thanksgiving food on television you grow up in other countries thinking it’s the most delicious thing in the world and then you try it and it’s dry struggle poultry with a hefty helping of bland soggy side dishes.

Plus the gif of the person at the soccer game looking disappointed with their hands on their hips.

SCREENSHOT OF THE FOLLOWING TEXT: In practice, a handful of voters in US swing states have more power to determine the speed and scale of planetary overheating than billions of other people on Earth. American colonists famously rebelled against the practice of “taxation without representation”. Is environmental devastation without representation any different? Even if carbon emissions were thoroughly democratically determined – which they are not – why would voters in the world’s richest countries have the right to poison the air, sea, soil and rivers for the entire population of Earth? Carbon emitted in the US and Europe wreaks havoc in Pakistan, in Haiti, in Somalia, in the Philippines. But the people of these nations have no right to vote in American or European elections. As a way of arranging our collective political life, that looks less like democracy and more like another political system familiar to us here in Ireland: empire.
