These are such nice units. The timeless shape of the MT-32 is amazing, but the way these stack like hi-fi modules, so good...

I am experimenting with running windows 8.1 inside qemu with a dedicated GPU, with no network access. I need windows for so much old software that doesn’t run anywhere else, but I am moving to Linux as the daily default os

I didn't go in with huge expectations (and after waiting for the mega patch that fixed the horrible animations) and I enjoyed it. It's not as deep as the first ones, but I had a decent time...

The SH-2 is way faster, I would say more than double. But this is “free”, as in the CPU can do something else while this runs. In aggregate I think it can boost the total polygon count by about 20%, unless the VDP1 is the bottleneck… otherwise it frees up some of the SH-2 cycles for other work

I couldn't agree more! I started on 8bit machines and worked on so, so many architectures... even though I am still in the software business, it's much more fun to make these old machines sing :-)

Oh honestly I wish he did too, he has a shooting voice as well :-) I am probably the same age as him, and there are many stories I could tell as well, but I don't have an ounce of his ability to storytell...

Thanks, I didn't really write this up properly, I will do that at some point to explain in more detail what's going on. I don't have Jon Burton's skills in making explainer videos :D

It's really a proof of concept, I just wanted to see if it was possible at all, and it turns out that it is :-)

A new project I have been working on, which I recently completed: using the Sega Saturn Audio chip DSP to process 3D polygons. Finally we can use ALL the chips and the Saturn is more powerful than the PlayStation! 😉😉 youtu.be/7ve8xyCD7ME

I played this one a lot (huge fan of the GITS series), and enjoyed it very much. In fact I purchased it when it was originally released in Japan, and then again when they released it in the West 😅

The X68000 is such an amazing machine, and the XVI is the best model overall to experience its library, IMHO. I cannot recommend enough equipping it with a MIDI card and a Roland MT-32/SC-55, what an experience!

I deleted from my PS5 FF7 Rebirth. I know I suck at games, but my level of frustration in the boss battles is beyond belief. I absolutely adore the art, the music, everything and I completed FF7 Remake twice. I hated XVI as well, so I doubt I will buy more FF games.

Oh I know the adapter, I meant what kind of signal does it produce? What resolution does it output and does it need special drivers to output something at 15KHz?

How does it produce a SCART output? Does it need special drivers/configuration to produce a TV-compatible signal from the SCART port?

I am pretty bad at shooters too, but I found the action in ME2 to be quite reasonable and not as challenging as in other series, say Halo. Some of the battles are a bit on the long side, I agree, but the rest of the game more than makes up for it, I believe.

Driller for C64 had one of the most atmospheric soundtracks ever composed. It’s literally half the game. I played it on other platforms too and it just wasn’t the same without that music…

After EIGHT YEARS of intense, continuous use, the "T" key on my Matias QuietPro keyboard stopped working. Called them up, they sent replacement switches (cheap!), I whipped out the soldering iron... good as new. Kudos to Matias, great products and great customer service!
