This poster has just gone up in Craneford Playing Fields, announcing a further stage of river restoration at Twickenham Rifle Club (Supported by FORCE), increasing the restored reach by four times to over 100 metres. Work is due to start on site later in the autumn

We have given out 43 litter pickers to local people over the last few years and Catherine handed out two more at a recent event in Mereway. We have more left if you would like one to help us make our local open spaces nicer for everyone

A few millimetres of rain and small green patches are emerging across the pale yellow expanse of Kneller Gardens - and yarrow has already come into flower. The resilience of nature continues to surprise

This is great fun to do if you're a London resident - and some very cool facts learned along the way!

This is remarkable! 7 patches of water crowfoot growing on the bed of the newly restored lower Crane at Mereway - where six months ago it was a bare concrete box channel. Water crowfoot is a prime indicator of healthy rivers and is more associated with Chalk streams than urban channels. Delighted!

Worse droughts, heatwaves and wildfires combined with a higher flood risk mean that our urban rivers and open spaces are both more precious and more at risk than ever. Please keep on appreciating and supporting them. shorturl.at/04xXM

We scored a respectable 7 on our invertebrate monitoring visit to Mill Road in Crane Park. However, water levels were low, temperature was high and the invertebrates were noticeably more lethargic. Our rivers (and open spaces) are desperate for some rain - with none on the horizon....

The Environment Agency has a camera installed in the fish pass at the Mereway Road Weir, Twickenham. Here is some edited footage of fish in the pass. This is great evidence that fish are using the pass to move between the middle and lower Crane. @friendsrivcrane.bsky.social

Great that the dog dips in Crane Park (by the dragonfly bench and by Crane Park Island) start construction on Monday. It will take a week, and is intended to prevent further erosion of the riverbank and provide safe, managed access to the river for visitors. Thanks to @richmondcouncil.bsky.social

Fatbergs - caused by the accumulation of fat and wet wipes leading to raw sewage backing up and spilling out into rivers. This is part of one of the biggest in recent years, 100 tonnes removed from the Crane last year. Please put fat and wet wipes in the bin and not in the sink, drain or toilet!

This cross section through a local sewer pipe shows the impact of fat being poured down the sink or drain. The blockage that follows will cause sewage pollution in our homes and/or rivers. See comments below for information on an upcoming trial project
