I was struck by this passage by St Jean Vianney. A true gauge of progress is how easily we know what to ask of God in comparison to our earthly needs. His point is not “earthly needs are bad”. It is “your desire for God increases in asking for God alone”

why are Catholics obsessed with everything being under attack? A) The Cross guarantees things are under attack, but a far more nefarious source than ideologies B) this weird sense of victimization that refuses a communion with the true Victim. It is tiresome

it always amazes me how easy it is for me to read when I am traveling. between sky train and my flight, I got through 1/3 of this book. maybe the more focused and less stressful life is helping me focus longer in reading!
