Some people still think Home Assistant automations mean YAML and a quiet evening to question your life choices. 😅 Nope. The new triggers and conditions let you start with what you want your home to react to, not which trigger type fits... More power, less complexity!

More power, less complexity in Home Assistant automations
The new triggers and conditions make Home Assistant automations more approachable, more powerful, and easier to extend without taking away the power underneath.

Open source won. That is why LGTM stopped being enough. In projects like Home Assistant, a pull request is not just a diff. It can affect real homes, personal data, and trust. Review got heavier because the stakes changed.

Open source won. That is why LGTM stopped being enough
Open source became critical infrastructure. That success changed what pull request review means, especially for projects like Home Assistant that millions of households now depend on.

Woke up with a random brain wave and had to check if I was right. My Saturday morning. 😄 Tiny Home Assistant PR: less wasted work in a hot template rendering path. Benchmark on my machine: about 51% faster. 🚀 Nice way to start the weekend. 🍻

Skip literal_eval for template results that cannot be a Python literal by frenck · Pull Request #173664 · home-assistant/core
Proposed change The result of a template render is coerced into a Python value via ast.literal_eval, memoized with @lru_cache(maxsize=EVAL_CACHE_SIZE) in _cached_parse_result. However, lru_cache o...

My second newsletter just went out. 🚀 This one has RSS, YAML, Thread plumbing, old-web nostalgia, and the slightly uncomfortable confession that my Home Assistant setup has 294 devices and zero automations. Curious what people think when they open it from their inbox.

Home Assistant just added the Reolink Elite Floodlight WiFi and Trackmix WiFi to Works with Home Assistant. Reolink now has 10 certified cameras. That matches my setup: local, reliable, and excellent with Home Assistant.

Can @home-assistant.io run DOOM? Turns out: yes. I built an integration that runs the real DOOM (1993) inside a dashboard, including some sensor entities.. The entire thing was written by AI in under 2 hours. I didn't write a single line of code. Full story: frenck.dev/home-assista...

So... can Home Assistant run DOOM?
It started with a DOOM t-shirt at a meetup. The real question? Can Home Assistant run DOOM? Two hours later, I had a fully working DOOM integration for Home Assistant and was fighting demons on my smart home dashboard.

And we're particularly excited about using this to help open-source maintainers. When we showed this to @frenck.social, the maintainer of Home Assistant, he wrote a workflow that reads the traces for bugs and figures out if they originate in the HA codebase or not. True noise elimination for OSS.
