Often times without malicious intent, the press is biased *toward* Trump.

As long as "re-election / maintaining relevance" and "avoiding Trump's ire" remain their top priorities, that moment will never come.

As has been well documented and litigated, Greenland should be aware that Trump does not concern himself with matters of "consent."

If you do decide on a Mac Studio, I recommend upgrading the RAM to at least 36gb because, if you don't have enough RAM at a given time point, macos will start using SDD storage as RAM and this will cause your SDD to wear out prematurely. I can tangibly feel SDD degradation on my MacBook Pro.

Just focusing on tariffs, for instance, you could make conservative-coded arguments like: "Trump is intervening in the economy in illegal ways, creating winners and losers in an effort to bring the economy under his direct control, and it's making eggs cost more money."

I still think there is a case that has to be made in terms of tangible conditions, because it's clear that voters have been conditioned to overlook a lot of things over the past ten years, but to suggest that you cannot damage Trump by attacking his clumsy and destructive authoritarianism is wrong.

I missed the part where endorsing Democratic candidates engaged in public corruption is helpful in creating meaningful messaging contrasts with the Trump administration.

"Learn from Biden's mistakes, retool and repackage policies that worked, and hammer a historically unpopular and corrupt Trump" would be going on the offensive, and seemingly easier.

Complete disavowal would be tantamount to saying that the stock market gains, economic growth, etc. were all illusory and had nothing to do with Biden, whereas the affordability crisis experienced around the world is all Biden's fault. I am not sure and political party would go that route.

Biden remaining in the race was moreso a failure of political maneuvering rather than major economic/foreign policy blunders, so perhaps that should influence the nature and the degree of the reckoning?

The next Democratic president finds a way to strip the Trump family of their ill-gotten emoluments or we don't have a country anymore.

Given that these tariffs have no legal basis and most representatives oppose them, it looks like markets did not accurately price in the institutional rot taking place in the heart of America's democracy.

So Trump's delusions about running for reelection are the only hope we have for him to abandon his delusions about massive tariffs?

Honest question, but is this post referencing democratic backsliding and other devolution in civic life, or something else?

There is no life event or business venture that Trump engaged in with a sense of responsibility to "get things right" or a fear of accountability when "things go wrong," so *of course* he will start a devastating trade war based on bogus ideological commitments.

Free Stoic @freestoic.bsky.social · 03/04/2025
Trump cannot fathom the existence of win-win relationships, and this dominance-oriented character flaw leads him to believe that buying foreign goods and services amounts to a dangerous reliance on others.

Trump has never faced negative consequences for his stupidity or immorality, so why would people think he would shy away from implementing this only long-held policy view when surrounded by complete toadies?

Now that those authoritarian tendencies are manifesting as monstrous public policy, it's incumbent on Democratic electeds to act like it.
000
Free Stoic @freestoic.bsky.social · 10/03/2025
They have convinced themselves that voters were aware of and priced in Trump's authoritarianism, instead prioritizing higher prices and border control. In reality, most voters were unaware/misinformed regarding those tendencies, or rationalized to themselves that they would not happen.

At this point, Democrats would *like* Trump's administration to be all chaos and no illegality/unconstitutionality because they believe that's how they won in 2020, the impeachments and trials "failed," and the consultant class is more comfortable maneuvering there. This is all a grave mistake.

Elites have the power to shape common understanding of what American values are, and it's time for Democratic electeds to stop reading tea leaves and start acting like like they have some degree of agency in this regard.

It should never be considered normal that POTUS inhabitants a fantasy world of grievance and delusion. The level brazen, persistent dishonesty Trump exhibits in nearly every utterance rises to the level of impeachable offense on its own.

The frustrating part is that all of this backsliding and harm was perfectly knowable, and could have been avoided if the average American expressed just a tiny bit of civic responsibility regarding their information diet, the standards they hold politicians to, etc.
