Today is #orangeshirtday in honor stolen children, some who never made it home. Genocide is unfortunately not something new to human history. Its legacy still impact Native communities to this day. Every Native you know or meet has a story of themselves or an ancestor. My grandmother was a survivor.

If you’ve noticed Indigenous people have been quiet about the Epstein files, it’s not because we’re shocked. It’s because we told you. For decades we told you what happens when powerful men abuse unchecked authority. We told you what happened in residential schools. We told you about the priests. The r*pes. The burned babies. The beastiality. The violence. The murders. The cover-ups. We told you how the government turned its eyes away while children were harmed. You didn’t want to hear it then.

Now some of you are horrified that wealthy powerful men built an island to exploit children? That power protects itself? That systems are designed for mens lust?

That’s not new to us. Between residential schools & today, the only thing that changed is scale. More money. More reach. Same sickness. Same protection.

Indigenous people were never the savages. Projection is a powerful thing.

So if you’re going to be outraged about Epstein, be brave enough to name the systems that made him possible. Be brave enough to look at what this country was built on. Because this isn’t just about one island.

It’s about whether you protect children… or protect power.

The Ku Klux Klan was used to being obeyed.
Used to silence.
Used to empty streets.
Used to people looking down.
That winter, their leader James “Catfish” Cole announced a rally in Robeson County. He promised newspapers they would “have a talk with the Indians.”
They brought a generator.
A microphone.
And a giant wooden cross wrapped in burlap.
Ready to burn.
They expected fear.
What they got was veterans.
The Lumbee Tribe had fought in World War II and Korea. They had faced machine guns and artillery. Men in white robes did not impress them.
As night fell, Klansmen began their speeches.
White supremacy.
Threats.
Boasting.
Then they heard it.
Car doors.
Hundreds of them.
Five hundred Lumbee men stepped out of the darkness. Some carried rifles. Some shotguns. Some rocks. All carried confidence.
They walked forward in silence.
The Grand Dragon froze.
He was outnumbered ten to one.
