One an old cinema that also forms part of the entrance walkway to a local theme come amusement park. Made of brown bricks it has a brutalist quality whilst windows at ground level are more redolent of art deco in my mind. The words DREAMLAND and DANCING displayed in yellow lights. Beyond it a neighbouring and equally iconic tower block fills the remaining space within the image so that surrounding area and sky aren’t visible. It’s late afternoon on a sunny enough day but the light now fading as the sun dipped into low haze.

Brightly lit by the lights of the public bathroom space. It’s cracked as if the screws were tightened too much. Spanning where the wall is painted a lovely pale aqua and crisp white. A photograph of a No Smoking sign. A metal band affixed to a concrete pillar. Light catches it to its right side and the full image is grey, off whites aside the ‘ban’ circle ⭕️ around the stylised symbol of a lit cigarette. Which is the typical red of European ‘ban’ signifier. I guess I shouldn’t find this fun given the poorer outcomes of smokers.

A photograph of a fallen sycamore leaf, yellowed by the season and the heat. Its tips curled. Positioned on the dry grass in the park it’s beautiful in the full afternoon sunshine.

The same leaf, flipped to show its underside, a paler and more uniform colour. Its veins pleasantly visible alongside its stalk which is bent across its centre.

The same leaf. This photograph shows the trees, still green, edging the open grassland space. Ruskin Park in Camberwell. A place I imagine inhabited by folk waiting for news from the nearby hospital or seeking respite from it.

A photograph of a partially crushed cola can discarded on the ground. In close up on the dry grass of a festival arena at the end of the day. A woman’s Doctor Marten style and dusty boots are visible just beyond our can, alongside the wearer’s shins. Further still the last few folk lingering as the space empties.
