So I've been doing the #31DayHorrorChallenge from @nofspodcast.bsky.social since the beginning of the month and I figured I might as well post what I've been watching. It's helped me get out of my Spooky Season comfort zone and watch films I haven't seen or watched in a long time.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 30 – 80s Comedy! Forgot to post this days ago but I rewatched 1984's POLICE ACADEMY. Despite dated and somewhat problematic humor at times for current generations, I still get a kick out of this slapstick comedy. Peak Guttenberg right here.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 29 – Free Space! This spot is for AMC's Screen Unseen tonight, GAIL DAUGHTRY & THE CELEBRITY SEX PASS. Funny film starring Zoey Deutch wanting vengeance on her fiancé by sleeping with Jon Hamm, leading to a wild adventure with the Mob. This should do well on streaming.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 28 – PM Entertainment! After this shitty month, I needed a terribly stupid film to lighten up things. This Anna Nicole Smith ripoff of DIE HARD helped a bit. Bad acting, a dumbed down script and some funny stunts are highlights (or lowlights) here. Awful but entertaining.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 27 – Italian Cinema! Giulietta Masina steals the show and breaks your heart as Gelsomina, a clown that is pretty much abused by a circus strongman brute played by Anthony Quinn. Just a poignant and wonderfully made film by the great Federico Fellini.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 26 – Heroes and Villains! Considering AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY is coming up at the end of the year, it was time to rewatch the first film from 2012. Weird to see how young and hungry the cast looks 14 years ago. Despite Whedon's personal flaws, he directed a great superhero film.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 25 – Jackie Chan! 1985's charming action-comedy POLICE STORY is one of Chan's best movies, where everything clicks from beginning to end. This film proves you should never leave a glass unshattered, especially in a mall during peak hours. Definitely influenced future films.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 24 – Slashers! Doing a second panel for less known slashers of 1981 and this Troma movie is on the list. Never been a fan of this one. Besides the football javelin and appearances from a young Vanna White, there's nothing to see here. No slasher movie needs three endings.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 23 – Exploitation Auteurs! Fred Olen Ray's ARMED RESPONSE should be a better film considering its cast, but it's just an average action-thriller with some fun moments here and there. Carradine and Van Cleef do have nice chemistry and the final act is fun. But overall, mid.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 22 – Revenge! Looked for a new film with this theme, I was suggested this Nicolas Cage 2019 flick where he seeks vengeance on a Mob boss and his crew for being arrested 19 years prior. Everyone looks bored here, including Cage. The father/son deal doesn't totally work. Meh.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 21 – Free Space! Rewatched 2025's SUPERMAN as a lead-in to the box office flop that is SUPERGIRL. I still enjoy this film a lot and think David Corenswet is a great Clark/Supes. SUPERGIRL didn't really capitalize, but still looking forward to MAN OF TOMORROW next year.

Time to catch up. #Junesploitation2026 Day 20 – '80s Sci-Fi! Doing an 1986 Films project and this ROBOCOP ripoff [which was released a year before ROBOCOP] popped up. Not Stan Winston's finest work, but the robot outfit is fine. Pam Grief is having fun hamming it up as the villain. It's just okay.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 19 – Black Filmmakers! Settled with Spike Lee's 2025 HIGHEST 2 LOWEST, a modern remake of Kurosawa's HIGH AND LOW. This is one of Lee's & Denzel's weakest collaborations. The tone is off. Distracting score. Denzel hamming it up. Wanted to love this one but it was just mid.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 18 – Franco Nero! Rewatched the classic 1966 spaghetti western, DJANGO. Often duplicated and homaged, those films have never come close to the badass Nero as a gunslinger who just wants to be left alone, despite bad men & ladies wanting him. That theme song still kicks ass.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 17 – Hong Kong Action! John Woo's HARD BOILED is still one of the best action films to ever come out of the Hong Kong film scene. Great fight choreography, charismatic actors/characters (Chow Yun-Fat!) and kinetic direction make this a must watch almost 35 years later.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 16 – Free Space! I'm using this space for STUDENT BODIES. One of horror's first spoofs, I feel the movie still mostly holds up if you've seen (and lived) through the initial slasher craze of the early 1980s. Horse head bookends also get me hot!

#Junesploitation2026 Day 15 – George Romero! Been meaning to watch THE AMUSEMENT PARK (1975) for a long while now. A pretty depressing short movie about aging and how the elderly are treated by younger generations. Romero always made us think with his social commentaries & this is no different.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 14 – Cannon! 1986's THE NAKED CAGE is your typical women-in-prison flick w/ lesbian wardens, sleazy male guards, & a whole lot of prisoners fighting & killing each other. Just with a lot more neon and hairspray. It also had a dramatic plot that I appreciated. Not bad.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 13 – '90s Horror! I wanted to watch something easy, so 1997's I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER was a good choice. Not my favorite nu-slasher of the era, but it's a fun ride from beginning to end. It's almost July 4th, so what are you waiting for?!

#Junesploitation2026 Day 12 – Kung Fu! 2014's KUNG FU JUNGLE is a police procedural where a serial killer is targeting Kung Fu masters, with prisoner Donnie Yen being the only one who can find and stop him. Pretty basic in narrative, but Yen is great as usual and the fight choreography is strong.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 11 – Disasters! One of the classics of the genre, 1974's THE TOWERING INFERNO may be a bit too long at almost 3-hours. But with that cast and practical set pieces and effects, it proves that they don't make Hollywood films the same way anymore. Still engaging AF.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 10 – Private Eyes! 1973's THE LONG GOODBYE - another film I haven't watched in decades. A fantastic neo-noir film with a charismatic Elliott Gould performance, as he figures out what really happened with a friend's death. One of the best cat performances on film as well.

(Catching Up) #Junesploitation2026 Day 9 – Thrillers! So many options, but I settled on 2014's GONE GIRL since I hadn't watched it since release. Still super effective with a fantastic Rosamund Pike performance. Ben Affleck is super solid as well. One of the best thrillers of the 21st century.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 8 – Zombies! Hadn't watched it since theaters, but decided to give 2021's RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY another shot. Yeah, still a mid af flick. Nice attempt to recapture the game's vibe, but a bland script and bad casting doesn't help here. Leon... yikes!

#Junesploitation2026 Day 7 – Free Space! Going to review more 1981 Slashers next month on a roundtable, so I used this day for BLOODY BIRTHDAY. A fun time watching three little brats murder a bunch of dummies just for the hell of it. Makes me kinda glad I never bothered with kids.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 6 – South Korea! 2021's MIDNIGHT is a 1st time watch for me and boy was it both tense, suspenseful & frustrating to watch. A lot of these characters do stupid things for plot purposes, making me yell at my screen more often than not. Still, a solid thriller.

#Junesploitation2026 Day 5: Teenagers! Forgot to post yesterday and wasn't my original plan for Day 5, but I guess 2026's SCARY MOVIE fits the bill since it has a younger, "teenage" cast. Uneven flick, but it's nice seeing the old gang back together.
