Mentally overwhelmed. Sinking into this box set with some coffee and the season 2 OST. I need to start breathing again.

As an anime fan, people don't understand how different things are compared to the 90s. I am listing to the Tomoyo After OST on Roon, of which there is a high res version on Tidal, and here are some suggestions Roon has for me to try. I could not imagine such a thing back in the 90s.

Welp, looks like we are choosing "let's go ALL IN for the most dystopian science fiction nightmare future AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!!!" version of the future. Lovely. I wonder what kind of shotgun load will be needed to disable these things. (goes to read some dystopian science fiction for answers)

There have been an unbelievable number of Kanon music releases (especially if you take into account all the doujinshi releases) but my overall favorite is still the tracks i ripped from the original game CD back in 2000.

Sometimes i feel like Megumi radiates how i feel about things more clearly than anyone in the comic sometimes... [600 dpi from the original comic attached (mangled by bsky image crunching of course)] #feels #mood

Ok, I'm going to attempt to do something I haven't done in 12 days: I'm going to draw. All set up at my desk - finally got some time, pencils, some music and Ruri to RAWR at me and make me work harder.
photo of my desk, RuriDragon figure, Weishi 1900 chronographic timer, lots of mechanical pencils, my Schiit Magni headphone amp and Buf Tube buffer stack.

Ok... i have to say, i am wondering deeply about where i am going in life, as i am recently listening to a LOT of jazz trios that look like this: (examples shown: Helge Lien Trio and Kari Ikonen Trio)
Helge Lien Trio - from the Roon page (playing the 96khz 24bit 2ch FLAC from Qobuz)Kari Ikonen Trio, from the Roon page (i purchased high res 96khz 24bit 2channel FLACs of this album)

What would Largo do? He'd say, we all have MASSIVE amounts of computer hardware all just laying around - we should make our OWN internet, with Japanese 60s' horror and research on sock fetishism. What are you young people waiting for? Us olds built the first one, it's your turn.

fredrin @fredrin.megatokyo.com · 27/08/2026
I'm sorry, Internet, but you is less useful and more empty than ever. Why do i say this? In this day and age if i can't find and watch chunks of this movie from the 60s through simple searches, what the hell good are you? When did you stop being about OUR random curiosity?

I have been actively trying to compartmentalize the chaos of things that whirl around my old head. When i was younger i could blaze my way through it and there wasn't so much. These days, i think this old man gets overwhelmed a lot and can't get near my maladaptive daydreaming headspace easily. :(

Also, dont know how many of you use Roon, but I started using it a few days ago in interest of trying to get better management of my, um, collection of digital music files. (there are a bunch of duplicates in there, so its not really 3.7k albums... not really.

Been listening to the Frieren Season 2 OST this morning... it's very chill compared to the first season OST (which is really wonderful) but that meandering quality to it makes sense since season 2 did involve a lot more wandering around :) Frieren has the best OSTs.

One problem with having just OK audio stuff for years is you never realize how much BETTER music sounds through a GOOD Digital Audio Converter (DAC). The goddamn Yamaha A-S801's built-in ESS Saber chipset sounds BETTER than my Schiit Modi 5! Built-in stuff NEVER sounds better, right? -_-

fredrin @fredrin.megatokyo.com · 06/08/2026
Better view of my Near-field setup: With an optical connection that JVC player sounds good thru the A-S801. I have two tape decks, an old Technics RS-BX828 is from the early 90s (stellar deck) and the OLDER Pioneer CT-F2121 from the 1970's for that REAL LoFi sound :) (equipment list in alt text)
Pioneer PL-500, JVC XV-N55, Technics RS-BX828, Yamaha A-S801, Pioneer CT-F2121, Schiit Modi 5 DAC, Schiit Buf tube buffer, KEF Q3 Meta speakers (KEF Cube 8 subwoofer under desk).

Yeah, most of the Metrics use the quartz hybrid chronometer movements by Seiko, but this is a really pleasant and nice manual wind Stellita movement (with a customized bridge plate). Sarah got a Metric Light (few Microbrands make sizes she likes) and I got this one so we'd match. Silly, i know.

Anyways, I'm sitting here listening to the Celeste soundtrack as i try to get some drawing practice in and get drawing to feel more natural. It's taking a little time here, but i'm getting there as i pleasantly listen to music and try to draw old lady Piroko...

But, well, imagine me being hyper-focused and obsessing about things wrong with me. Some benefits... after adjusting the tracking force to 2.0 grams and verifying adjustments, the Celeste vinyl box set sounds really, really, really good so who cares. :)

Earlier this year I realized i had lost some hearing in my left ear - not much, i can hear just fine, but i was alarmed when i realized i could hear a mechanical wristwatch ticking with my right ear... but not my LEFT ear. I lost the hearing of some frequencies in my left ear. This spooked me.

What's kinda going on here is The Blackout from Blade Runner 2022 but without any of the cyberpunk cool factor. This push to digitizing everything and destroying the originals to take it out of our control is just a different. In this future, this age will have no memories, no images, just remixes.

When you fiddle around with actual LOFI and want to process it with the highest fidelity... it is like an allegory for how Largo processes Piro's emotional ramblings...
