Og så står de i ettertid og skryter av at de har 'effektivisert den og den sektoren' når i realiteten mye er blitt verre - men forverringen er ikke målbar i form av penger

Definitely. Luckily never had an issue with the Geddy Lees, Surkamps or Hammills, it just makes the music unique and more interesting imo. 😊

Neiden, Finnmark. Retrogressive yes, but probably due to quick clay

Came across this ~800 square m-large landslide in East Finnmark while mapping. The terrain is dead flat, so it probably reflect that a thin lens/pocket of quick clay in the deep was punctured by the river to the North causing the overlying (glacio)fluvial sands and gravels to be swept away.

Beats me, I work with Quaternary stuff usually 🤷‍♂️ But it is distal to the large nappes, it is overlain by sandstones and it has been dated.

Sad deflating noises 😢 Visiting the last palsa mounds near Neiden in Finnmark, 69.7°N. Mostly just thermokarst ponds left.

We hiked the same beautiful, yet steep route up Sunndalen in Stryn to the moraine, which is located in Skjåk municipality.

The moment of final epiphany fell in this very location more than two hundred years ago. But maybe it dawned on them gradually as they passed striated surfaces, cirques and large erratics on their way up there.

As the Vassryggen moraine was (and is) located far from any glacier, they argued that glaciers once must have covered large parts of Norway – and that the climate must have been much, much colder.

Fredrik Høgaas @fredrhog.bsky.social · 23/07/2026
At the time, Sikilbreen glacier was much larger and the glacier’s relation to the large Little Ice Age moraines were evident – which led them to interpret the large Vassryggen moraine (known as the Esmark moraine) in the outer part of Lysefjorden as formed by glaciers.

Just back from the “Otto Tank moraine”, where Jens Esmark and Niels Otto Tank in 1823 observed a newly formed moraine and managed to put the pieces of their groundbreaking Ice Age hypothesis together.

New paper out in QSR 👉 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... We establish Younger Dryas and Tapes sea level transgressions of 5-9 and ~10 m, respectively, in southern Norway. The YD sea level transgression and highstand reflect the glacial readvance and subsequent stillstand during the Stadial.

The data are partly based on image matching, so it's not as detailed as LiDAR. But yeah, pretty low features. And many have different lithology than the underlying bedrock, which implies transport. Still strange. Too coarse to be palsas. And some are located pretty high up, cf. groundwater discharge

Circular moraine features on the Varanger Peninsula, northern Norway, and their possible relation to polythermal ice sheet coverage

Just back from another coring campaign - retrieving sediment cores from basins close to ancient archeological sites, e.g. for pollen analyses. Spring is fast approaching in the lowland, but winter is still very much present around lake Røssvatnet at 65,5 degrees north. I like my job.

Out coring for past sea level and GLOFs! We found this unit of graded gravel and sand with erosive boundaries, between a lacustrine gyttja (top) and a silty suspension sediment (bottom) 🤤 No idea what it is, yet ... Down = down core.

Perhaps the circular ablation moraines could be remnants of a pre-Wechselian ice-marginal deposit? Similar to the interpretation of Veiki moraines in Sweden being of MIS 3 age.
