Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 13/04/2026Not Your Party, but I'm sure something will take its place sooner rather than later. The Scottish Greens are getting a second-hand surge from Polanski's media work now but it won't stick, they're inevitably going to support an SNP government again - vote Green get SNP austerity. 010

Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 27/03/2026Jez said last year he supports self-determination for Scotland and a second referendum and promised autonomy for the Scottish party. It's on that basis that most of us joined. Then our members actually voted to back independence and they've pulled the rug. 010
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 27/03/2026Well no, it would've been 6 ring lights - contrary to popular belief we don't all live together in a commune, we're spread out all over Scotland. And since this isn't a podcast trailer (we don't plan on making this a regular feature), that would be a bit wasteful... 000
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 06/02/2026What *is* your point? What about transphobia in Your Party? Transphobia exists in every party, just like racism, sexism and homophobia exist in every party. They're social ills, any sufficiently large group of people has to contend with them in their own ranks. Rome wasn't built in a day. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 06/02/2026Seriously though, one of the chairs of this conference is a trans woman. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Many people are unhappy with the Greens over e.g. SNP austerity. Obviously someone who's completely happy with the Greens has no reason to join YP, but that's the case regardless of whether we have a transphobia problem to deal with or not. People *unhappy* with the Greens should consider joining. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025I'm not going to tell trans people what they "should" be doing; I personally think it's a good idea for as many trans people to *join* rn and make their voices heard. If the party does turn out reactionary you can always leave again and not vote for them, as indeed I would myself. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025At the moment, local meetings tend to be open to the general public and widely advertised. My suggestion to you would be *don't* sign up, *don't* give us your money, but go along to one and meet the members - no strings. If you hate it, at least you can come back here and gloat about how I'm wrong! 000
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Nobody had any idea who he was before he got involved with Corbyn, and still nobody I've met in the party particularly cares what he has to say, as far as members go he's irrelevant. He may have wiggled his way inside the coat but I'm confident he can be shaken back out of it just as easily. 210
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025That's fair enough. My hope is some might see this and respond. What you could do if you wanted is attend a local meeting without joining (they tend to be widely advertised, and at the moment are open to anyone including non-members). Based on my experience, you'd def meet trans members there. 210
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025I think that question would be better put to the trans members who *have* joined and are already involved, I'm not going to attempt to speak on their behalf. All I can say is that I *would like* you to join and help shape this party, and that I will try everything I can to remove any such hurdles. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025I'm sorry but that's just bad faith, I had started typing this second post before you had even posted about the Serwotkas and you gave me less than a minute before accusing me of "avoiding" something. To respond - I have had zero involvement with anything to do with them so I can't comment. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025I don't "demand" anything of trans people; I would *like* more trans people to get involved and be part of these local discussions, the regional assemblies, and the national conference. That said, I haven't thus far attended *any* meetings that didn't have multiple trans comrades joining in already. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Local "proto-branch" meetings attended by several dozen members each have unanimously voted through statements/motions that include support for trans rights, none that I've seen have voted through anything to the contrary. I would hardly call that "vibes". 200
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Yes we do, or at least I do, because I'm involved in organising and have met hundreds of members already. All of them have voiced support for trans rights and opposition to transphobes remaining in the party. Could be a biased sample, but I see no reason why it would be. 110
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025I am as confident as Linda that the member vote *will* decide exactly that. There's no contradiction. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Hardly "completely different". I agree with Linda that YP *will* do all of those things, and I'm sure Linda is just as aware as I am that the only reason we haven't *already* done them is that conferences haven't happened yet. 200
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025All I see is they shared details for a protest. That's hardly a "statement". 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025The Your Party Scotland website and social media accounts were set up by individual activists to ensure that organising information (events) could be publicised and that they weren't snapped up by a random troll. That hardly enables them to dictate policy pronouncements on behalf of the membership. 000
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025How can there be, Beth, when there is currently no one with any democratic legitimacy to make policy decisions? I think we can all agree we don't want the Independent Alliance imposing all their opinions on us, and as for the people managing social media, they weren't elected either. 400
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025We do have power, or we will, at the Regional Assemblies and the Founding Conference (if selected) happening next month - and we certainly plan to stand up for your rights and against transphobes (and landlords!) in those spaces, alongside our trans comrades attending. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025There are prominent transphobes present in the party, there is no current process to kick them out but everyone wants to make it happen as soon as there is, nobody who isn't already a transphobe cares what they have to say, and I'm responding to it right now. 300
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025No, people are seeing transphobia when they look at what a handful of coattail-riding reactionary MPs most members want to see booted out are saying. Unfortunately regular members like me don't all have the same visibility as MPs do, but we sure can outvote them in the party. 800
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Correct, as of right now we don't formally have a position on *anything* because those positions are up to a democratic decision by members. If you want an idea of what the positions *will* be, look at what members are saying or, better yet, join us and be part of the conversation 😊 600
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Zarah has made statements affirming trans rights. Both Jeremy and Zarah are just making statements as individuals as nobody is currently in an elected position to speak on behalf of the membership. 400
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025From everything I've seen from the membership, trans rights *will* be part of the platform just as soon as there *is* a platform for them to be part of. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Hi Bill. I have yet to meet a single YP activist in Scotland (out of hundreds I've met) who doesn't agree that transphobes are not welcome in the party, neither are landlords, and the IA MPs other than Zarah and Jez should be kicked out asap. Hope that helps. 200
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025Your Party Scotland can have no official stances on anything until agreed at a democratic conference of members. However certainly all Scottish YP activists I've met either support independence outright, or at the very least support Scotland's right to hold another referendum. 110
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 25/10/2025While I don't think that statement can be verified since YP hasn't collected any such data (and the other parties don't publish it either), we certainly have a number of trans comrades in the Aberdeen proto-branch and I've met others from other Scottish proto-branches. 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 19/09/2025I think that's a bit premature, I haven't lost hope in Jez seeing sense, getting back on board with Zarah and leaving the four reactionary coattail-riders behind - he has his faults, but he's one for turning. He's recognised and made amends for mistakes before, I've not lost hope he'll do it again! 120
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 19/09/2025So it depends what you consider "fair", should it represent UK demography or party demography? I'd actually argue for the former (so I kinda agree with you), but it's not a cut and dry question by any means... 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 19/09/2025A lottery for a big enough delegation should result in demographics *roughly* matching the membership. What it doesn't address is whether that's already skewed by itself. If e.g. 70% of members are male, delegation will be ~70% male, which is representative of members but not the country as a whole. 200
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025UNISON is a very wide spectrum and the left is on the rise - hope Andrea Egan wins the GenSec election (she was kicked out of Labour in the Starmer purges). As for GMB though, or as I like to call them OLB (Orangemen and lassie bashers), I do agree with you! 110
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025My favourite example: a proposal to give free driving lesson vouchers to 17-year-olds in deprived postcodes for access to better jobs. Shot down why? "Seems at odds with net zero". Because famously, zero-emissions cars don't exist. Wanted to stick my head in a blender after that one! 000
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025Exactly - personal nonsense and image concerns held sway over policy. The list of good policies I watched get shot down purely because of either who was behind them or patently stupid objections over optics was just depressing. 210
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/20252019 I was threatened with a no conf vote when I attracted the ire of the Central Belt careerist clique & stepped down. Stayed another 2 years hoping someone else might deliver the change I couldn't but alas, no dice. Switched my focus from party politics to trade union activism, now here I am! 000
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025...problem was, they were all so busy fighting equally passionate people with awful ideas that the only ones left to run the show were dispassionate people with no ideas at all. The higher I rose in the structures the more I found myself surrounded by feckless careerists tilting at windmills. 220
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025What frustrates me is it didn't have to be that way. During my time in the party - well after 1999 mind - I still met a whole host of passionate people with brilliant ideas at the grassroots... 120
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025I'd hardly call 4 barely relevant MPs throwing a tizzy and Jez placating them a "collapse". I'm sure Jez'll come to his senses and the four coat-tailing numpties will bugger off once they realise that 700,000 people didn't sign up for transphobia and defending landlords... 100
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025Also curious what you think about the SNP-led Aberdeen council threatening fire and rehire? If you can be anti-worker and anti-union and still be "centre-left", then Starmer is still centre-left too, I suppose? I just don't think that works. 000
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025I agree that the union is broken, but I'm no longer fussed whether we solve that with indy or with a proper federal UK. I used to be an SNP member, but I'm done hanging all my hopes on something that might never happen. We need to push radical change *now*, not at some undefined point in the future. 000
Fred Bayer @fred.scot · 18/09/2025See my replies to @carnaptiousmadeye.bsky.social. Curious as to what supposed "evidence" you speak of... 000
