It is so much fun (and also reminds me of Fortitude). Oh and the episodes are mostly around the 40 min mark, which feels unheard of for most Netflix shows. A dream!

Count me in on the Carrie train (there are a few things that don't work but not enough to squash my enthusiasm). Another show that is doing some fun things costume-wise, particularly Carrie's homemade garments (designs by Tammy Joe). Oh and Summer H. Howell is fantastic.

A recent LitHub article dug back to the 1970s and ’80s, citing Elaine Kraf’s “The Princess of 72nd Street” and Nettie Jones’s “Fish Tales.” Others on Reddit have recommended Dorothy Baker’s “Cassandra at the Wedding” (1962) and Sylvia Plath’s “The Bell Jar” (1963).

Besides being skeptical about the “weird” factor, some writers and readers are wary of singling out books by and for “girls.” Moshfegh, for example, pointed out that she’s not a girl, and has “never written a book about a girl.”

Others felt that the use of the word “girl” reflects a tendency to treat writing by women as a separate category from “literature” writ large.

The whole East of Eden ensemble is excellent, but I am forever in awe of what Florence Pugh can convey with a look. It is also wonderful to see Lee (aka the beating heart of the book) in this version, with Hoon Lee as another standout for me.

East of Eden is out now, and what an incredible adaptation by Zoe Kazan. I will have more to say, especially about the costumes by Kirsty Cameron. Watching the first two episodes on the big screen last week only made me wish I could've seen the rest of the season that way. What a feast!
