Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 29/05/2026It's still not too late to change Artemis III back to a lunar mission, going for an extended stay in lunar orbit with Orion would be useful and confirm the new heatshield in proper reentry conditions. It might also be possible to prepare a docking target there, like JAXA's lunar HTV-X variant. 110
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 10/03/2026I wonder what happens when Isaacman has to inevitably answer to Congress after his plan ruins the program and little good chance it had to do something until a lander is good to go. Without Gateway and this key lunar orbital domain, this program can be completely canceled if landers shit the bed. 010

Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 01/02/2026It's a rehearsal for launch. They're pretty much doing everything as if they are preparing to launch, only without crew onboard and stopping at the final countdown before the ignition sequence. This includes loading all of the cryogenic propellant in the core stage and ICPS. 010

Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 13/01/2026He definitely won't. Artemis III is also most likely not going to be landing in the end because of how far any lander is from being ready, I don't see any landing from the western side before 2030s while China might just make it by then. 000

Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 23/09/2025Exactly, fans love to flaunt with numbers without actually looking at substance behind them. Majority of their launches have been Starlink launches, not government (civil and military) or commercial (other customers). 020
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 28/08/2025It's absolutely ridiculous how much mass and space that thing wastes. Good thing it will never come close to carrying crew, the refueling architecture is megafucked because it relies on a massive, completely unreachable amount of propellant transferred per tanker to get it done in 17 launches. 120
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 08/08/2025They just finished touring last month in the US, they're releasing their first concert film on August 21st in select AMC theaters. Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 15/06/2025People should realize these Axiom flights are the closest to SpaceX having their own crewed program, with the little oversight they have relative to NASA CCP, having their shitty company culture risk a serious accident isn't suprising at all. Without any oversight there would be fatalities by now. 120
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 06/06/2025Almost as if cheaping out on everything isn't such a good idea. 010
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Transfer time of over 13 years, there is no margin for a kick stage that would allow for a more direct or efficient transfer. A 10 ton stage with payload and 9 tons of propellant would have ~3 km/s deltaV with hydrolox and RL-10, it would start from HEO. SLS without a kick stage is better than this. 110
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Clipper is slightly over 6 tons. UOP would be over 7.2 tons. 110
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Spacecraft weigh several tons alone. A stage wouldn't have much room left, dry mass of stage and structurals would be a few tons so prop mass would be ~9 t at most, that is not enough to produce required deltaV for direct transfer. SLS on the other hand can make use of kick stages, plenty capacity. 100
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Any mission where total payload mass exceeds that limit. For example, the two Gateway modules it's supposed to launch came over that limit as development added more mass, they had to shave it off first to fit under the limit and then some more for module propulsion performance itself. 100
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025There are none available for the foreseeable future. Block 1 is discontinued after Artemis III anyway. If it lives on then there are future prospects with uprated variants. 000
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025You have no clue how wrong you are. FH and New Glenn aren't as capable as you think. Clipper launch cost 178 million, it was all expended. 100
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025modifications for spacecraft which cost more than it would have if it was a direct transfer. Direct transfer is the only feasible option for distant targets such as Uranus or Neptune, alternative would take too long to reach. New Glenn is also far less capable than SLS. /2 100
Franky @frankypi.bsky.social · 30/05/2025Not how that works, canceling projects from one branch doesn't translate to more money for others. FH is incapable of sending these probes on a direct transfer trajectory, it launched Clipper on a gravity assist that takes significantly more transfer time and closer to the Sun, which prompted /1 300
