I'm Frank, and I write historical, folk, and cosmic horror. My favorite villain/antagonist is Leanne from Servant. I think she can qualify as both. #HorrorWritersChat

Now she was a cormorant flapping above the holy dismemberment. The lungs of God sucked her from the sky down into the mess, breaking her wings. His watery palm slapped down again and again. As seawater filled her little lungs like a wine skin, she could feel them all around her, pinching and ripping. One of them pulled her leg off, and she was dead again.

Congrats—the best #audiobook I've heard since "It" narrated by @thestevenweber.bsky.social. It's almost like @sgj.bsky.social wrote this to be read aloud. The entire cast was amazing, but Ghostkeeper stole the show. It felt like Good Stab was in my passenger seat telling his story. #horror #booksky

God’s crumpled sketches were neither warm nor cold, and none of them had suns or moons. Some had scattered stars, and a few contained plants or fungi with dull bioluminescence—typically either a weak yellow or blue glow. None displayed beauty, but all housed strange life. #Horror #booksky #WIPSnips

Here's a dark and stormy #poem from a poetry/photography book I made a few years ago. This is "The Swell." #horror #booksky #writingcommunity #eastcoastkin
Black and white ocean with text:

The Swell

Morose—it swells and sloshes, this
creaking levee in my eyes.
It drizzles down and stings the snow,
for no old gods are hulking here.

Why must I shoulder “cease to be?”
Does green still smash skyward up the
permafrost? Doubt—absence feeds the
swell which wreaks its wrecks in me.

Snippet from my #horror WIP, "Of Blasphemy." #booksky #writing #writingcommunity #writingprompt
The lead dog was a big mutt called Baise-l’ours—he apparently earned this name because he pinned and humped a bear cub until its mother chased him away. The Bear Fucker—so crude. He was pure white with a brown mask from his nose to his pricked ears. Baise-l’ours was strong, clever and mean—the perfect alpha dog. Then there was Cul-de-cochon—a mottled gray and black dog who constantly passed wind as he pulled the sled. He would nip back at Baise-l’ours, but would never challenge the alpha directly. Finally, there was Hélène’s favorite, Le Bébé. As the smallest dog, she deferred to the others in everything. Hélène overheard Rémy calling her an “Indian hare dog.” With her reddish coat, Le Bébé looked more like a large fox than a real sled dog, but she pulled like hell and obeyed her masters—one couldn’t ask for much more than that.

Here's the #poem that inspired my #horror novel WIP, "Of Blasphemy." I wrote it after hiking a trail system near my house that began as a farm in 1652. #AmWriting #BookSky #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #NewEngland #EastCoastKin
1652 Pastoral

This dead farm is older than our witches;
laid on land of the old, New World.
Wind rattles incantations through the leaves,
and I follow beyond the gate.

My feet float along the red, needled floor,
guided by a stacked stone backbone.
Walking, walking—away from time and self;
deeper, walking under a spell.

A break in the spine invites me off-path.
Back behind a felled pine, I find
a quaint pond, framed by roots and mud-embossed;
topped with slush like porcelain skin.

Do springtime bass and bream await my bait
below the mirror’s frosted glaze;
or did the tears of Salem trickle south
and form a barren pool of grief?

A subtle ascent up a rightward bend,
past a down birch’s pulp and curls—
a hawk shrieks through my veil of quiescence,
and I drift back into myself.

In circles, circles—spiraled down the day;
now amber ash paints the ridgeline.
I circle back below the crowning moon
and in the darkness, reach the gate.

Mine are typically 2k-3k words. I just had to break up some really long non-chapter sections in my manuscript because they were getting impossibly long.

I did it! I wrote a fucking book. A hike inspired a poem. The poem inspired a story. Nine months and 92,000 words later, I have finished my first manuscript—a historical/cosmic horror. Rest, then revision. #writing #horror #booksky

Here's a #poem I wrote a couple years back. "Brevity." #poetry #writing #goth #eastcoastkin
Brevity

Capsized pyramid, shake the details down.
Distilled to facts and nothing more,
briefly smudged across the page;
dissect in parts by four.

Introduction—born, and bridge—we grow.
Body—fail and try to mend.
Conclusion—ties us back to naught;
Full stop. We’ve reached the end.

Just finished The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by @sgj.bsky.social and I am blown away. It's so difficult to find an original story like that, and the audiobook was such an immersive experience, I found myself making up chores and errands so I could get away and keep listening. Absolutely amazing book.

Cleaned up the #poem I wrote yesterday. Here's the edited version of "Less Vivid." #EastCoastKin #Poetry #ArtShow #WritingCommunity #creativewriting #booksky #poetrysky
Less Vivid

Time’s an eraser and life is
just paper.
Slowly, it scratches you away,
leaving pink
shavings where your vivid details
used to be.

I wish that I recorded your
shrinking voice.

Your noises are fading.
Your laughter has faded.
Your stories are fading
from me.

You are barely a visitor
in my dreams.

I wonder where you are,
and why you chose to go.
And where can we meet when
I leave?

Now most of your picture is gone,
and I can’t
always remember to miss you.
But sometimes
I do, and it hurts so bad to
forget you.
