Amen on those titles! When I saw “Winter Stars,” I thought of the blood-drenched wings of this Sara Teasdale poem. I wonder if Levis thought of that poem as he wrote his poem. The 2 poems talk to each other—even if they never heard each other.

Agree. I enjoyed “Pop/Easel” greatly for its window into those times & the attitudes then toward those times. Clearly attracted to the French Nouvelle Vague—but well-done in that style. Haven’t mentioned the soundtrack yet—that’s evocative too of the early ‘60s, the “decade” before The SIXTIES!

“Who is Martin Mull” reveals a man deeply involved in painting through his long life yet without any significant art-world cred until his later years. In the film, in his 70s, he experiences with gratitude some measure of validation of his visual art.

Russell’s quartet are all in their 20s, 3 of the 4 physically beautiful, 3/4ths will make art into their 80s. One, the most charismatic, is a highly talented young woman Pauline Boty who died at 28. The oldest, the only one still living at 94, Peter Blake will design notable LP covers.

Oddly, watched 2 documentaries concerning visual artists this weekend: “Pop Goes the Easel” Ken Russell’s 1962 film about 4 young English artists & “Who is Martin Mull” Bob Sagert’s tender consideration of the man better-known as a singer/comedian/actor. Both of them made me consider my own old age.

In a perfect world I should find an artist who’d like to work hard on short deadlines for peanuts promoting dead poets with indi music to a small audience. From what I hear, vibe coding produces better, less “detectable” results. That last may be important. There *is* an AI backlash.
