@nikitonsky I was quite proud of the one I put together for SDL Sopwith

Macos finder window that looks like the Sopwith game. The app icon is the plane you control in the game and it is sitting on the runway. A wobbly arrow leads to a cloud in the sky where the applications folder is found. Text reads "fly to the applications folder to install". There are a few other icons at the bottom of the window for documentation, the license and such

One of the loony candidates, the late "Lord Toby Jug" was even expelled from the party for criticising JD Wetherspoon and Nigel Farage. It really isn't the lovable harmless joke party that it seems.

There was some disagreement over the reasons for his departure from the Loonies. Jug complained that under its leader “Howling Laud” Hope, the party was no longer funny, while Hope claimed that Jug had been expelled over his criticisms of Wetherspoon – which the party had been trying to attract as a sponsor – for planning to open a pub in St Ives, and for his attacks on Nigel Farage, with whom Hope seems to have enjoyed a pint-toting friendship.

Turns out I was technically wrong about WarioWare. Waluigi makes a brief cameo appearance in Smooth Moves in the "Shoo!" minigame, if you can really call it one

Picked up an HP 95LX at a recent vintage computing event I attended. It's a beautiful device but the 40x16 display is really limiting in terms of what you can run on it. I may just have to get myself a 200LX as well :)

An HP 95LX palmtop device is open and running. A cable can be seen coming it out of it on the right hand side. On the display is the start screen for QBASIC that reads "Welcome to MS-DOS QBasic [...] Press enter to see the survival guide...". However only part of the full screen is displayed because of the limited screen resolution.

The words "manage your database schema as code with atlas". The font is called "Space Grotesk". Descenders on lower case g and y characters are square instead of rounded and the w characters have squared off bottoms

There's a whole cornucopia of new stuff that's waiting for people to use in new levels: tents and flagpoles, trucks, water and radio towers, and observation balloons, plus there are some slots where you can just load in your own new artwork.

The coaches saw right away that "picture power" was designed to teach kids the cueing system. But they said many teachers don't see any problem with cueing. After all, one of the cues is to look at the letters in the word. What's wrong with teaching kids lots of different strategies to figure out unknown words?

"I remember before we started looking at the science and everything, I thought to myself, 'Reading is so hard for kids, so what if they use the picture?'" said Soraya Sajous-Brooks, the early literacy coach at Prescott Elementary School in West Oakland. "Like, use everything you've got."

But she's come to understand that cueing sends the message to kids that they don't need to sound out words. Her students would get phonics instruction in one part of the day. Then they'd go reader's workshop and be taught that when they come to a word they don't know, they have lots of strategies. They can sound it out. They can also check the first letter, look at the picture, think of a word that makes sense.

Teaching cueing and phonics doesn't work, Sajous-Brooks said. "One negates the other."

The same page of the manual also encourages "girls in their late teens / early 20s" to write to Simon Woodroffe (creator of the StS game series). Yuck.

Personal problems

Girls in their late teens/early twenties can write to Simon at Adventure Soft as long as they use scented paper and put little hearts instead of dots above the 'it's. Simon does not guarantee to answer all problems but does guarantee to laugh at any of the really tragic ones

Riiiight... this must be the infamous "liquid glass" thing everyone was complaining about

"welcome" drawn in cursive in a style that is typically for macOS , except it's drawn in a transparent/translucent style that is typical of Apple's new liquid glass style, and has been rendered on top of my desktop background which is a pattern of cartoon bananas, leaving it completely unreadable

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to introduce a
refundable tax on drinks containers

Litter is a serious problem. One method of combatting litter
is a refundable tax on drinks containers; this has been
introduced in several countries including Germany(where it is
called the "Dosenpfand"), Sweden, Norway, Denmark and several
US states. Under this scheme, an extra charge is introduced on
drinks cans and bottles, but this extra charge can be refunded
by returning the empty container to a shop. This places an
incentive on the consumer both not to litter and to pick up
litter that they may find in the street. Introducing a similar
scheme in Britain could do much to improve the littered streets
of the country. It can also encourage recycling.
