As you may have noticed, I've changed my profile picture to my favorite image taken by the Artemis II crew. Those who've known me for a while know that I have always been enamored by the beauty of both solar and lunar eclipses, and this may well be the most beautiful one of all.

A zoomed-in version of a photo taken from the Artemis II mission, titled "In Eclipse". It shows a total solar eclipse as seen just after a lunar flyby, where the Moon's significantly-larger-than-usual apparent size dwarfs that of the Sun, creating over 50 minutes of totality.

My attempt to view the auroras tonight ended up being a complete bust, but I did see a meteor and travelled through a small town called Nash. Thought that fans of @radiodeadair.com might approve.

The on-campus therapist/counselor at the Art Institute of Seattle in the year 2004 handed out sheets at orientation that gave out information on how to access various mental health resources at the school. Along the bottom was a chain of the dancing thingies. I went up to her after and congratulated her for being an animation nerd and asked her where she had seen Rejected originally. She was confused and had no idea who Don Hertzfeldt was, she just liked her "little dancing cloud duders". I saw her a week later and she had looked up the cartoon. She told me I was a horrible person who had ruined everything for her, because she had been putting them on handouts for years, and now all she could think about was bleeding anuses ... I'll remember that moment on my deathbed.

Hell, you can go to your Bluesky settings and make it force you to put alt text on your images and videos. It’s really not that difficult to add a short description of the photos or videos you post. See the provided example on this post.

A long-exposure image from a large gravel area taken at 7:45 PM but looks bright enough to be the afternoon thanks to a brighter-than-usual half moon out of frame. The bright dot above the horizon is Venus, and can be seen among many other stars in the sky. The front bumper of our car can be seen at the bottom-right of the frame.

A potential workaround to the US TikTok ban. Not ideal, but better than nothing? (transcription in alt text for those who need it)

A block of text from the WIRED article "How to Get Around the US TikTok Ban":

"In the early hours of the US ban, it was unclear exactly how feasible it would be to get around the restrictions for US accounts. It seemed that TikTok had taken a more extreme approach, turning any US builds of the app dark—blacking out versions of the TikTok app software that had been made to be downloaded and used by US users. It also seemed that US-linked accounts were being blocked regardless of IP address or SIM country information.

Running a VPN alone was certainly not enough to circumvent the ban and get back on TikTok. But seemingly using a non-US TikTok account after removing a SIM (or on a device without a US SIM card/US phone number) worked when combined with a VPN. Similarly, using a VPN with a desktop browser or the Tor Browser was enough to get a non-US TikTok account to load in the US early on Sunday morning, though TikTok's desktop version has always been much more limited than its mobile app."

That's not where the updates stopped. They just destroyed their post grid and profile layouts as well. This UI update is about as egregious as their recent moderation updates.
