In that sense "Zionism is a nationalist movement that advocates for the creation and support of a homeland for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel" isn't *inherently* racist. There are ways to try to achieve that goal peacefully/cooperatively etc. They just largely haven't been chosen by power

fr0greborn.eurosky.social @fr0greborn.eurosky.social · 08/10/2026
But you certainly can't have it both ways. Both claim that Zionism is inherently racisst because that is how it has been practically interpreted by power and then claim that communism doesn't follow the same rules and the practical intepretation by power shouldn't count.

"Also just because a government claims to be communist doesn'tmean it is." I mostly agree. Which is why I was arguing against statement "The function of any system reveals what it is." because it clearly doesn't add up when talking about ideologies imo.

The racist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is a Zionist, but so are many of the Jewish and Israeli anti-occupation activists who volunteer to act as a “protective presence”, putting their own bodies between settler extremists and Palestinian villagers in the West Bank. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The Green party’s anti-Zionism motion is yet another attempt to tell Jews how we should think | Jonathan Freedland
The resolution shows little understanding of what Zionism is, who Jews are or how antisemitism works, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

There are rightwing Zionists who think it should be in all of that land; there are leftwing Zionists who think it should be broadly within the much smaller boundaries that existed before the 1967 war and alongside a Palestinian state. But both groups are Zionists.

fr0greborn.eurosky.social @fr0greborn.eurosky.social · 07/10/2026
Would you still agree if you replaces Zionism with communism here? The fact that it in practice has mostly led to brutal regimes doesn't disqualify the ideology as a whole imo.

You constantly mention the state as the source of evil. Yet the resolution does not, it mentions an ideology. Do you think it may say something about the strength and meaningfulness of the resolution that you can't even defend it on its own terms?

Because you can't cleanly "state facts" around something that is an issue of definition. This isn't making a statement about the laws of physics but about a term that will inevitably be quite defined different by different people and this will inevitably create (needless) tension.

I don't think it's just one forum. Trying to compromise the system that's hosting what you're targeting is common in hacking competitions. And all of these models are trying to be good at coding/pass hacking benchmarks. So I think you're almost necessarily gonna end up with it in the training data.

If they possibly are sentient how can you still condone what can clearly only be called their exploitation for human gains. It makes no sense to me.

I genuinely don't understand how these people live with the cognitive dissonance that the positions "LLM models are/might be sentient" and "Let's keep on training/rewriting/remodeling these things to bend them to our will and make them our personal butlers" clearly should generate.

I know I’ve been tweeting a lot about AI doom lately, and dismissing it a bit. But just to be fair and balanced I want to say. If you’re working at an AI company and you say “I’m really worried that the thing I’m building will extinct humanity” and you keep building it, you should surely go to jail

Previously we never needed language to distinguish thought-like structural information processing from the conscious thing humans do, because those things were always the appeared alongside each other. Maybe we'll need a wider dictionary in the future.

I think it was Hank Green who said something like AI is forcing us to come up with new words/distinctions that we previously didn't need. Structurally you can argue fairly well that LLMs are doing something thought-like but I think the case for them being conscious is extremely weak.

I don't understand how that relates to the previous discussion. You said he jumbled himself up intentionally, but what you are talking about now would be "post-jumbling", wouldn't it? A fragment of his jumbled mind going rogue basically. (Sorry if I'm being dense)

I think that's a bit too wishful. War itself has a huge destructive impact. All the carbon released, billions spent on arms and large scale (environmental) destruction might just end up eating up any supposed benefits of more expensive fuel

This is a weird comparison though, because social media get more useful the more people are on it. So unlike tv stations they naturally skew towards monopolies. Only good way to fix that is to mandate interoperability first.

It's not an alternative universe, it's the one we live in. An association of people that forms a legal entity is a company. If you want shared responsibility/ownership of something in a way that is legally binding, that's what you'll inevitably form.

In the middle of what? The show? Or just of middling quality compared to media in general. Like a 5/10. If it's the latter an episode can both be mid and easily the worst of the season if every other episode is like an 8 or a 9.

Well yeah, it wouldn't make collaborative art impossible, but kinda untenable? Imagine you do a sketch comedy show with a bunch of other comedians and then only one guy gets to decide how it's distributed/sold etc.? That would kinda suck, wouldn't it? Seems like that would lead to a lot of feel bads
