I went to install the @paxaus.bsky.social app on my phone for next week. Wow. Fuck me I guess. And the map isn't even found on their website via a quick navigation. Pretty sure you literally have to access it via a search engine. C'mon. Do better, please.

Birthday at the zoo was good. I braved the butterfly house and they would not stay off my hat. The Tasmanian Devils were hecking menaces :) Saw Zillie the Cassowary. My legs and knees and feet hurt :)

Bird tax paid. One of last year's babies. I give magpies small treats [and recommend Feeding the Birds at Your Table to anyone in Australia], but avoid feeding fresh babies directly in their first year. It does not prevent them from learning I carry treats. lol

Partly due to age, partly due to diet - they live in a section of the park with BBQs and likely eat a little more human food than is healthy, which prevented the beak from gaining the white coating.

It Came BACK TO ME!!!! One of the people I'm with to round out my weekend with headed back to the venue for things. One of them stepped on it! Got it stuck in their shoe! It's scratched up. But I love that it came back to me!

I haven't spent as much time at the park the last few months. A lot has changed in the magpie world. Same female holds the territory, but new male. He used to be over the road. The rest of his mob has vanished. And he has a new territory. Next to his old one which was absorbed by another mob.

I know which plants at my favourite park are most likely hiding bugs. Sometimes I like picking them up to have a closer look before I pop them back where I found them. ... Often not before they pee on me. *Sigh* Is this a species of Christmas beetle?

Small "ask the kids" article in which three children are asked, "How would you make Melbourne a better place?" The second child (Magnus, 4) says, "More magnets". Some people believe the journalist misheard Magnus and he said "More Magnus" instead.
The two other responses are (Lily, 4) "By being a barbie or princess and playing with lots of arts and crafts" and (Abdujabar, 4) "More zoos with lions in them and swimming with the sharks and dolphins"

Went to my brother's place today. Sat with his dogs who did a pretty great job of making me feel better. Was also nice seeing my brother :)

My pins arrived from @blacksmoke1033.bsky.social They're beautiful. The packaging adorable. Bonus stickers! I swear I ordered a couple B-grade pins, but his standards are so high, I see no flaws

There is purple tissue paper at the bottom a box with a plastic black spider and lolly - which is sadly not vegan, so I'll put out for neighbours/neighbours kids tomorrow.
One parcel is white and yellow stripes with a minimalist dog skull sticker holding it closed.
The other parcel is black and white stripes with an octopus/squid(?) sticker holding it closed.
Everything about the packaging screams love and care.

There are FIVE pins, which may have been a lot, but the buyer had just gotten a larger than expected tax return and also was hours away from crashing with their first COVID infection. So give is respectable.
Pins: silver cat head with black :3 face; black cat with silver details; white text speech pin that simply says "AAAAAAA"; an angri crow with blue eyes, just like the local Australian ones I befriended; and the most important item: a beautiful pigeon pin in flight. The wing extends upwards with a spring allowing the wing to move!! (The spring is hidden)
There is also a keychain: A biblical accurate Pomeranian with wings and rings. The wings and rings are covered in eyes. The dog's eyes are glowing.
Bonus stickers! A sticker of the biblically accurate doggo. Plus a large Jekyll and Hyde eye from the artist's graphic novel. And a punny sticker of a dinosaur with text pointed to it "ankylosing spondylitis" - a condition sometimes referred to as dinosaur spine. It's very funny. Until today I was unfamiliar with either of those things.

WE'VE GOT BABIES! So the father is her son (long story). And this year the eggs have hatched! Babies!!!

Female Australian magpie bent over cashew treat on concrete. There is a dried up worm beside her which she realises is not good enough for her babies. She has a bunch of feathers missing from the crown of her head but they're growing back slowly.

This was one of my fave trees. Most of the branches fell in the storm. They cut up the fallen branches today. I'm very tempted to grab a log. But not sure what I'd do with it.

I was bitten by a beetle that crawled in my hoodie. Feeling really fucking offended right now. Based on the pictures I've managed to take of the back of my neck, I now have a huge red patch with an angry raised welt. RUDE! I'm assuming it's one of the swarming beetles below
