But like, to give past you a little grace, unfollowing people can feel bad! In the same way "follow" gets knotted up with "friend," unfollowing someone can feel a little nuclear option-y. Not saying that unfollowing would have been a bad idea, but some resistance to doing it would be understandable

When it gets knotted up that way it’s easy for “I’m unfollowing” to become “I hate you” or a follow to be “I want to be friends” when in truth neither of those things is necessarily true. I dunno. I have a lot of critiques of my own behavior, internally, because of this.

Like base level, a “follow” on socials is “I would like to see more of this“ and that’s all. It’s when it gets tied up in our existing interpersonal relationships that it suddenly gets more complicated, where it starts taking on more meaning than it probably should have.

Dovetails nicely with — and just spitballing here, no meaning in this list probably — having a people-pleasing problem, having trauma about abandonment, feeling isolated or disconnected, anxiety in general, and specific anxieties about “doing things wrong” to really warp your behavior.

I get that in FE games in particular, a lot of the character development happens in supports, but that's kind of a "why should I invest?" situation. And this is hardly an FE-specific problem; I love JRPGs and manga and anime but this "The character is ONE THING ONLY" is so common in big casts.

Which was what turned me off about Engage. I liked the character designs in Engage, but interacting with anyone in your army felt like a waste of time. There was Weight Training Guy and Princess Tea Ceremony and Chef Knight and if you EVER talked to them, ALL they EVER MENTIONED was their One Thing.
