#audio folks of fediverse - I am rebuilding an audio system after a couple of decades of not playing physical media. What are the current recommendations? We have a lot of cassettes, records, and CDs. I have a decent sony CD player. Looking for recommendations on turntable, tuner/amp, cassette […]

A bit of a labor of love for me, this #movie #trailer streaming site scratches my early 90s video store clerk nostalgia itch. I enjoy letting it simply play in the background like I used to do with the VHS trailer reels in the salad days of the early 1990s. It does a refresh/addition of new […]

The Nine Lives of an Early Adopter: ESnet’s IPv6 Journey — and Why It Matters Now
Last month's ARIN 57 meeting featured a keynote address that brought three decades of real-world IPv6 experience to bear on the question the Internet community keeps asking: Are we there yet? Learn how Inder Monga and Nick Buraglio of ESnet answered that …

More and more I am finding that the single largest technical impediment to #IPv6 deployment is the fact that github has no IPv6. Lack of an IPv6 endpoint not only hinders development work, it really, really, REALLY makes working with containerization images and platforms almost prohibitively […]

Many years ago Jim Warner started a page dedicated to documenting port buffers on network hardware, which has become the de facto source for much of this information. Since Jim's passing a few year ago this site has been taken down and restored a few times. In keeping with his tradition and to […]

Fairly big updates to the backend of stats.ipv6.army - integration of routeviews data to enrich BGP statistics, fix a *bunch* of really, really gross hardcoded stuff, make modular and improve data source polling logic, and added better mobile network data statistics. #ipv6 #ipv6stats

Last nights fun project was this topography mapper using LLDP and SNMP to walk networks and map them out. Generates a png, pdf, drawio diagram or a excalidraw doc. github.com/buraglio/lldp2map

Feature update for ipv6utils, including the "format the addressing" stuff discussed in one of the #IPv6Buzz podcasts. Also a new build system that automatically builds every binary for a given release and posts them for download and an updated brew tap for MacOS. #IPv6 […]

Also added some beta nonsense for checking cloud providers for #IPv6 support, but it's pretty limited and of questionable utility. Would welcome some better ideas for testing such things. ipv6.army/cloud-tests

Originally a GoLang app, re-worked the tools on ipv6.army/isp-check into javascript which will check if your ISP has #IPv6 and optionally generate text for a request to add it if they don't. It also supports lookup of ASN for the same purpose.

Hosted email options for 2026
Email. Possibly the most useful and least sexy of the core set of internet applictions. In past lives I ran Microsoft Exchange , Postfix , cc:Mail , and very, very large Sendmail installations. Since early 2005, though, I have outsourced my own personal email to Google. As an original “google Apps for Your Domain” tester, I had early access to the bevy of tools that Google had to offer, and at my favorite price - $0.

IETF v6ops Working Group on Software Gone Wild
In a triumphant return, Ivan Pepelnjak has resurected the Software Gone Wild podcast! As some may recall, I was a co-host on SGW for quite a while, eventually branching out into the MODEM.show in around 2020. Well, MODEM has concluded, and SGW has returned. It was quite fun to “get the band back together” and record this one. From the podcast post : The first IPv6 specs were published in 1995, and yet 30 years later, we still have a pretty active IETF working group focused on “developing guidelines for the deployment and operation of new and existing IPv6 networks.

I finally jotted down a table of in how far the big three browsers currently support RFC9460 HTTPS records. In summary: - All browsers support ALPN - Safari has the best support; it's the only browser that supports AliasMode, but Safari doesn't support ECH - […] [Original post on mstdn.social]

Wasting bunch of time reducing the public IPv4 usage on AWS for a client to reduce recurring monthly costs (AWS charges by the hour for IPv4s) There are things AWS doesn’t even support that would help, like giving an RDS instance a public IPv6 without public IPv4. It's dual-stack or die! Please […]

Tech CEO Sentenced to 5 Years in IP Address Scheme
Amir Golestan, the 40-year-old CEO of the Charleston, S.C. based technology company Micfo LLC, has been sentenced to five years in prison for wire fraud. Golestan’s sentencing comes nearly two years after he pleaded guilty to using an elaborate network of phony companies to secure more than 735,000 Internet Protocol (IP) addresses from the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), the nonprofit which oversees IP addresses assigned to entities in the U.S., Canada, and parts of the Caribbean.
