aaaAAAAAAA IT'S DONE. Fortuna's Evoker splash art is here! @chroulvus.bsky.social absolutely nailed this piece. I'm beyond happy with how they took @joybilance.bsky.social's outfit and my splash art ideas and ran with them. Go check them both out right now (this is not optional)!!! #ffxiv #viera

Art of Fortuna by Chroulvus. Standing in a windy background, Fortuna - a tall, pale woman with rabbit ears, green eyes, and short brown hair tipped with blonde - grips her scythe in her left hand and conjures fire with her right. She wears an outfit that seems part performance piece, part battle garb, wrapped in deep reds and clad in silver accessories. The scythe is clearly magical, formed of two parts; a traditional mage's staff forms the haft, complete with a crystal at its head, whilst two silver blades form the head of the scythe. Crimson aether spills over the head of the blade, further extending and sharpening it.

And then finally the as-yet-unnamed weapons. As far as a primary arm name goes, I think Staff & Scribing Blades are a good start. We drew from Bloodborne's weapons to showcase Fortuna's mixed capabilities and her normally solo adventuring. You can see the pen nibs here, too! Any name ideas?

Some close-ups of the armour. When putting it together two ideas surfaced; the idea of performance (Fortuna wants to do good and look good doing it) and then the idea of her spells being written, after a fashion. A pen nib motif was a happy accident in the process that I rapidly fell in love with.

Okay, I'm too excited. @joybilance.bsky.social helped me put together a set of custom armour and weapons for Fortuna, reflective of her canon #FFXIV job - Evoker! This gorgeous gorgeous g o r g e o u s set of gear is going to feature in more stuff coming up. I can't wait to share more.

How about a teaser? Courtesy of @joybilance.bsky.social and their incredible design work.

Art by joybilance.bsky.social. Three views of an ornate red and black staff, housing a crimson crystal at its head. The staff is wrapped in silver; the tail is decorated such that it resembles a pen nib.

Art by joybilance.bsky.social. A curved elbow blade, its hilt wrapped in red and black leather. Crimson aether spatters the silver blade like gore, magick extending the reach of the metal.

Is this good? No, but it is certainly the most:

Putting it all together (even more weirdly)

I want to build a greatsword-wielding spellsword DPS.

I equip a Dark Knight’s greatsword. This gives me:
• Hard Slash Combo (Hard Slash > Syphon Strike > Souleater)
• Unleash Combo (Unleash > Stalwart Soul)
• Unmend
Current affinity: 100% DRK (Tank)

I equip a Black Mage’s Soul Crystal. This gives me:
• Astral Fire, turning the Hard Slash combo into the MP-draining Astral Slash Combo.
• Umbral Ice, turning the Unleash Combo into the MP-restoring Umbral Unleash Combo.
• Transpose & Umbral Soul
• Polyglot, Foul, and Xenoglossy
Current affinity: 100% DRK / 100% BLM (Freelancer)

I want Black Mage’s explosive spells and ranged capabilities, so I equip 3x BLM items and 1x Casting accessory and purchase the Enochian Kit. This gives me:
• Fire IV and High Fire II
• Blizzard IV and High Blizzard II
• Flare and Despair
Current affinity: 100% DRK / 200% BLM (Caster)

I’m feeling edgy, so I fully send the dark magic angle and go for Reaper’s Offensive abilities, too, filling out the rest of my gear slots with Reaper & Maiming accessories. This gives me:
• Arcane Circle & Plentiful Harvest
• Arcane Crest
• Hell’s Ingress / Egress
Current affinity: 100% DRK / 200% BLM / 100% RPR (Caster)

My Caster role gives me:
• Addle, Sleep, Lucid Dreaming, Swiftcast, Surecast

An eon in an instant. A promise in a flower. A choice at the end of all things.

Screenshot of Final Fantasy XIV. Fortuna, a pale woman with brown hair and rabbit ears, dressed in crimson armour, looks despondently back at Halmarut, a woman with red hair and green, draconic horns & scales, dressed in a grey dress. Halmarut's convocation crystal, a bright green stone engraved with a constellation, hovers between them, and they are framed by crimson spider lilies. At their backs, the world burns and the stars bleed.

Won't be fighting any laws in this outfit

Screenshot of Final Fantasy XIV. Fortuna, a pale woman with brown hair and rabbit ears, stands in front of some tended flowers. She wears a miner's outfit; a loose jacket with an open front, red shorts with braces on her knees, and heavy working boots and gloves. She fiddles with a pair of goggles hung about her neck.

I stitched Fortuna into the Endwalker Launch Trailer. This is just the last minute, but it was such a fun project to work through. Going through the footage to build up that 'O Warriors of Light...' montage in particular made me feel some feelings. Enjoy!

Lv. 80: By the time the Scions return from their ventures in the First (so towards the end of 5.3), she has returned to the Mol to receive her mentor. A key distinction here is that her mentor (this timeline's "WoL") does not arrive bodily in the First. He gets soul-yoinked like the rest of them.

A screenshot from FFXIV. Fortuna, the woman in the preceding screenshots, sits amongst the Mol tribe, a group of Xaela au ra, people with draconic horns and black scales. She wears the Mol tribe's signature red garb, and listens to a player of the morin khuur, a two-stringed instrument decorated with a wooden horse head.

Fortuna picks up the mantle of the MSQ / WoL adjacent to ShB, so let's talk about it. Lv. 60-70: By request of her mentor, who's currently on the First, Fortuna introduces herself to the Scions and lends aid as Estinien does, helping to keep the peace and learn about the land her teacher loves.
