Got tired of dealing with my beard so for the first time in almost 7 years I have decided to rid myself of it, mostly.

I'm going to start having people I go to comic shops with pick out a comic for me from the 50¢/$1 bin. My partner, one of our friends, and I picked out the 3 in the first picture, and I nabbed myself the DC Presents annual because it looked interesting!

Got Superman: The Kansas Sighting delivered today! I remember reading this a few years back and really digging it, and think it's one of the books that started to enrich my ideas of what Superman's alien heritage means to him. Really glad to have it in my hands again.

You already know! Honorable mention to Dragon Ball, but that started publication in the 80s, so I wasn’t going to count it here.

A collection of short stories about an artist/hitman in NY. The museum story is my personal favorite, just great art on display.

Tonight’s project is compiling and collaging a bunch of pictures from my new years trip so I can actually share them with the world. Currently figuring out photo selection, placement and formatting.

By Mazzucchelli, Miller, Scheele, & Rosen. Daredevil: Born Again. Been rereading this since I got Premier Collection edition, last time I read it was around a decade ago. I’m very much taking my time to soak up each page that I can.

Finished a long-awaited reread of DC: The New Frontier, by Cooke, Stewart, & Fletcher. Easily my vote for the best book DC ever published, it juggles so many plot lines and somehow manages to successfully converge them all into the story of the birth of the Silver Age. Perfection from top to bottom.

On top of always enjoying Thompson’s writing and Sherman’s art (this has been a MASSIVELY great year for them), the lettering by Becca Carey was an absolute delight and made the reading experience even more enjoyable (shout out to the use of yeet)! Also the stuff with “Amazon” was the KH2 bit lmao

Finally got around to reading Absolute Wonder Woman 1 today, and by god I KNEW it was going to be my favorite of the Absolute Trinity launches. Emotional, badass, filled with wonder and determination that reminds us why these characters are larger than life.

My LCS got in our orders of Batgirl #1, and aside from overall enjoying it (my one gripe is that it just throws us into the story with no preamble, but I guess that means we get the ball rolling much quicker!), I specifically LOVE how Mike Spicer colors the ninjas, it feels very Frank Miller to me.

I've been rereading Kirby's New Gods since it's been so long, and I forgot how bombastic everyone is, and I love Orion so much now after just 4 issues. So many attempts at these characters since mostly fail to capture this energy, which is why I'm so excited for the scale of the upcoming run.

An image of the exit from a pitch black theatre, illuminated only by the green exit sign and light leaking through the double doors. Each door has a circular window, the left window is an open eye to the light outside, the right window is dark. Light reflects off of the top of two rows of chairs on the left side of the image. Photo by me.

There’s also something extremely Golden Age-y about some of the pages/panels in this arc. The flat coloring and backgrounds probably have a lot to do with that. I love that all of the different artists across this book are capable of capturing different aspects of the character and world like this.

Forros Borros @forroboros.bsky.social · 24/09/2023

I love how so much of this book is just visuals. We rarely need narration over Wesley’s investigations/sneaks, it would just get in the way of the mood and tension of the scenes. From “The Face” arc of Sandman Mystery Theatre, taking place in issues 5-8, art by John Watkiss, story by Matt Wagner.

He is in the walls of my brain. Go read Sandman Mystery Theatre to get a complementary Sandman in your brain too!!

Final page of Sandman Mystery Theatre issue 1. Sandman is discovered by Dian Belmont in the bathroom at the Police Department, attempting to break in.

First page of Sandman Mystery Theatre, showing a dream/nightmare that Sandman has been experiencing, leading him to solve a string of kidnappings and murders by The Tarantula! I recolored the borders/gutters to be black, as they were originally white. I wanted to see how this page would feel with an overwhelming darkness added to it.
