I’m having a lot of fun with my Devaronian Hawks in #ZeroCompany. I love that there are so many options to play as something other than a human!

TLA - My favorite Wes. I love its meditation on fatherhood and its blending of stop motion with live footage. LoB - One of my favorite comedies Rashomon - Speaks for itself La Jetee - Very influential on me as a sci-fi film that does a lot with a little thecriterioncloset.com#closet

This will always be odd to me. SF is home to the Walt Disney Family Museum dedicated to a filmmaker with no Bay Area ties. Meanwhile, they rejected the Lucas Museum which was founded by one of the Fog City Mavericks. I'm excited to see it in LA, but it's such a bummer that it isn't here.

I’ll always love the bold red of The Last Jedi’s posters. The design in TLJ is so perfect and the posters really reflect it.

One of my favorite parts about the Jedi games is that Merrin is depicted as equally heroic to Cal even though she comes from a non-Jedi Force tradition. Luke’s right when he says “To say that if the Jedi die, the light dies, is vanity.” and this really helps drive that home.

Relatedly, it’s why I like that Dooku’s costume incorporates brown in a way unlike most Sith. It semiotically makes him LOOK like a fallen Jedi in a way that Sidious, Maul, Vader, and even Kylo don’t. (It also reverse amplifies RotJ’s tension of “uh oh has Luke fallen?”)

I don’t dislike the all-black look, but I think I prefer a little more variety in the palette because incorporating some white or brown gives a bit more of that Jedi-vibe

It’s interesting to me that Disney’s Luke costume leans so much more monochromatically into black than his Return of the Jedi costume or some of his Legends looks. People remember his RotJ outfit as being all black so it may just be that, but I’d love to know the thought process behind the choice

17. Star Wars: Legacy of Vader: The Reign of Kylo Ren Vol. 1 I loved getting to return to the gap between TLJ and TRoS. The comic does a good job of tying ST-era Kylo in with Vader’s PT arc.

16. The History and Politics of Star Wars by @chriskempshall.bsky.social What a read! As someone who read books from the EU and the expanded Disney canon, it was REALLY cool to get an analysis of Star Wars that takes it ALL into account rather than solely the films. HIGHLY recommend for SW fans

15. Enshittifiction by Cory Doctorow An easy to read summary about the decay of the Internet, its causes, and possible solutions (which are basically to revive unions [including for tech workers] and get laws passed saying execs CANT enshittify their companies or services.)

14. Immediately, or, The Style of Too-Late Capitalism by Anna Kornbluh I found myself disagreeing with the book’s core argument multiple times, but nonetheless really enjoyed reading it and thinking about said argument.

13. The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire by @chriskempshall.bsky.social An in-universe history book, it’s an attempt to explain the horrors of the Empire to a galaxy reeling from the events of TRoS. In the spirit of Andor, it uses Star Wars to explain our own “evil empires” to us as well.

1. Hyperspace Skipping was pretty cool 2. Withered Palpatine hanging from the mechanical arm is so iconic. 3. Hey! Babu Frik! 4. My EU-loving heart was happy to get a yellow saber on screen. 5. I loved Rey force healing a creature rather than killing it. Very Jedi.

The Last Jedi is, imo, the most holistically Star Wars movie since Disney bought Lucasfilm. It contains the franchise in all its aspects from myth to action to cute little guys.

10. Fun and enlightening read about how the roots in our cultish thinking can be traced back to before the Puritans set sail. It’s a very empathetic look at cults while not shying away from the horrors committed by cult leadership.

On Saturday and Sunday, #ThatShow raised over $16,000 towards mental health services in schools! I watched 19 out of 24 hours of the stream and made art the entire time. I loved spending almost a literal day watching the tri-state area’s greatest weirdos do dumb comedy bits for a good cause.

As soon as I saw Tallie Medel’s Saturn Devouring His Son on the latest #ThatShow Hosted by Chris Gethard, I knew it would be the subject of my fan art for this ep. I’m so grateful for That Show as a space for bold and innovative comedy and Saturn Devouring His Son really exemplifies that.

An illustration of a hand reaching towards an series of screens that fade into each other. Each screen is a different color. Each screen also has an image of a monkey performing stand up with a bubble pointing to him which says “Hammer monkey died and went to hell. We all hate him.”

3. Thief of Time This was SO my jam. Lu-Tze is such a fun embodiment of the monastic trickster. It was also cool seeing a version of Death from later in Pratchett’s writing immediately after Colour of Magic. Few other books in Discworld will likely be as up my alley.
