The news is out! On Wednesday I found this unsuspecting looking bone under a nodule. We thought it was a baby mammoth scapula. This morning we realised it was the jaw of a cave lion. An incredible team effort to expose, identify, and conserve this incredibly rare specimen 😍🦣🦁💗 #TuskForce

This small circle of stones in the Valley of Stones is the remnants of a bronze or iron age house. The house itself would have been built out of wood, just using the stones for additional external support. #25sarsensofchristmas #dailysarsen #sarsen #valleyofstones #FarminginProtectedLandscapes

Hambledon Hill in Dorset on a fine spring afternoon - #HillfortsWednesday is a perfect way to start any year and a reminder that I need to get out wandering on many more ramparts in 2025.
Standing on the lowest, outer bank (rampart) of Hambledon Hill Iron Age hillfort in Dorset. In front you can see the line of banks and ditches sweeping around the side of the hillsides. The late afternoon spring sunlight casts a faint shadow. Out in the distance you can see rural north Dorset’s green rolling countryside.

As promised last #TankTuesday, a thread on the British A9 & A10 tanks. These wonderfully quirky-looking tanks were the last of the line of British medium tanks developed from the early 1920s through to the mid-1930s. Both were used by the British Army in the early years of WW2. A very long 🧵 1/
A black & white photo of a column of three A9 tanks drives down a grassy slope. Their hatches are closed and they sport two-tone camouflage.. On their left, three A10 tanks drive down the slope abreast. No tanks seem to carry any markings other than their serial numbers.
