I took a course called "Man, Mind and Machine" long before LLMs came out and I feel attacked.

Think you need to go to robots, dolls or NPCs or something at minimum, because pinecones are not an attempt at making a simulacrum of a puppy, kitten or child.

Could be it applies more in presidential systems. The Electoral College reinforces the "only two viable candidates" dynamic too.

I think the Paxton PACs wasting money running national ads are also perhaps helpfully reminding people elsewhere about how the GOP is full of crooks.

He was posting about how Trump should keep fighting in January 2021, *after* Jan 6, so...

Bit of a hint from how he keeps on grasping about for anything other than the obvious conclusion: he voted for Trump, then Trump drove a Haitian boy over the edge, and he was just unlucky to be involved. Someone who just "took a chance" on Trump wouldn't be as committed to avoiding that conclusion.

You have an option to get me out, take it if you want it. You want to be as much of an asshole as you want and demand no response. You want no response, don't start a conversation.
000
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Well then I guess we're at an impasse because if you want to be shitty and dishonest, I don't agree not to respond to it.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
You seem to think it's relevant, otherwise why ask about it? I didn't assume you disagreed or not which is why my example involved people I do know disagree.

Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
If you want to talk about a point not involving me, don't start threads about me and quoting me. Feel free to delete this off your timeline, but don't whine that you can't @ me without getting a response.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Change it to "YOU don't agree with Erin Reed" and the point is different... how?
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
It doesn't actually change what I was saying at all.
200
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
What does "e.g." mean? Does it mean "YOU agree with Erin Reed"?
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
So in other words, nothing really. You can just admit that, it's fine. You were saying Erin Reed is not responsible for trans people feeling terrified.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
But what did *I* say about elections?
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Of much of anything!
000
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Could I possibly be referring to the things I said and not the things I didn't say? bsky.app/profile/fork...
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
How about you tell me what I said about elections first.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Yeah where would anyone get the impression you were talking about Erin Reed or politics. But also what did I say about elections that wasn't already under discussion? bsky.app/profile/jane...
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I've seen enough to know that you're NOT ALL well fucking aware of plenty of things. As you SAY you weren't actually agreeing with Erin Reed, then if you don't agree with her, it would naturally follow that you don't all have the same read on the situation.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And I'm to believe you'd listen to a trans person who disagrees. Not really giving that impression.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Your argument was to tell someone to listen to trans people rather than offering any opinion about strategy or tactics. I pointed out that trans people don't all agree so this isn't really a way to settle any questions. (also assumes those opinions aren't informed by listening to any trans people.)
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And again, that's the lesson learned from 2004! That's how gay rights were won. Dishonesty and spite.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And given how negatively you responded to someone offering as a hypothetical the same argument you like should make you consider whether it's actually a useful thing to say.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I responded to a comment not the OP directly. You portrayed it as a response to OP. I said this was dishonest. You're now surprised I'm saying I wasn't taking issue with OP. Maybe consider for a second whether maybe my response was literally a response to the comment, not the OP.

Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Are YOU getting what you wanted out of this thread?
200
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Also you started a NEW thread specifically to attack me! Like what kind of gaslighting bullshit is it to act like it's so weird I'm responding to you when you do that?
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
What would I complain to him about, exactly? I haven't said anything that implies I find anything objectionable about his statement! I was kind of joking with the illiterate comments but that's really a bizarre thing to say that suggests some serious misunderstanding.
200
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Well, tbf, I think you're allowed to make analogies to 2004. I said "And if I want to say" for a reason, I'm sorry you're too illiterate to understand that's not the same thing as directly making the accusation.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
It might be a little more convincing if I didn't know he was also a "Bush and Gore are the same" guy.
090
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And this is the lesson we learned from 2004. Tell the straight people that everyone gay hates them. And that's how we won.
000
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Kind of proving the bad faith here.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I mean I guess I should accept that someone dishonest won't admit to it.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And yeah, if you want to portray me dishonestly, I don't think it's overly self-centered of me to respond to it.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Tossing out the context that relates to what I said is still dishonest, regardless of what spin you want to put on it.
200
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I'm sorry, but I don't let people who aren't cis gay men with trans sisters lecture me about my relationship to any struggles.
101
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
You juxtaposed statements that weren't next to each other in order to give a misleading impression of the interaction. Which, yes, is dishonest.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
If only your dichotomy weren't false.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
But now you're doing the thing you're complaining about, telling me how I felt or would have felt in 2004 and telling me that I learned nothing from the experience.
200
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Is this an admission that you didn't really think it was illiterate to read it the way I did?
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Hmmm, no I think there were some intervening statements there, and you are being purposely dishonest in portraying it as if I'm saying how dare you be touchy.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
You were clearly endorsing the analogy. I don't think it's illiterate to think that's the case. And I mean, I don't know how old you are. I've had others dismiss the relevance of that experience who didn't live through it. You seem to think it's relevant.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
And if I want to say you're taking MY experience of being a gay teenager in 2004 during a nationwide hate campaign to write homophobia into US/state Constitutions to lecture me about what lesson I'm supposed to take from that experience?
400
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I hear that, but, on the other hand, just imagine the value of getting him to recite the Shahada!
000
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
But not all trans people say the same thing. My sister, among others, would not agree with Erin Reed, e.g. "Listen to trans people" doesn't actually settle the question...
200
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I think you've got some magnitude errors in there. 975 is only 0.1% of the 2022 vote in Kansas, not 1.5%...
000
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The Constitution grants Congress the authority to regulate the time, manner and place of congressional elections. For example, currently multi-member House districts are banned. But they were used in the past, this is merely a statutory ban, Congress can instead mandate them with PR if they wish.
000
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
None of those require constitutional amendments. (Some SCOTUS reforms might, but there are plenty that can simply be passed by Congress.)
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The best solution is reform to the government itself. (New states, proportional representation, SCOTUS reforms, etc) Level the playing field and make it easier for voters to understand who is responsible for outcomes. Making the voters less stupid is, well... Difficult to say the least.
100
Mario @forkymcspoon.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
TIL when they passed "don't say gay" laws affecting schools, this did not actually change anything? We must pretend it had always been banned, so we can maintain the myth that gay rights have never suffered any setbacks and therefore gay people don't actually have any relevant experience.
