Maybe the NYTimes article he links to is more... nuanced. But who gives a shit.

This is the most amazing political post of all time. It's only downhill from here.

Yeah, it's quite clear he know that all of the money in the world can't force people to like him... and that drives him nuts.

oh no, he doesn't get to set policy. he just gives the district money.

"Congratulations on your recent elevation to billionaire status. You now have to make sure the school district of Oakland is fully funded every year."

Everybody who has over $1 billion should be forced to adopt a school district. And adopt another for every additional $1 billion.

Fact of the matter is that Americans are tame as fuck. Multiday civil unrest in one neighborhood of one city over objectively-unjust systemic issues is a major historical event...

Imagine if residents of US cities barricaded major avenues over insufficient school funding. That's what's happening ALL OVER FRANCE right now.

Political systems that weight land more than population (like the Senate) barely made sense when they were instituted centuries ago. They make absolutely no sense when infrastructure has advanced to support metro areas with 20 million+ people.

It's absolutely wild how huge modern-day megacities are. One of our friends is in a choir. This year, they toured all of Scandinavia. Next, year they're touring *just* Mexico City. I checked: Mexico City metro area is about the same population as Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland combined.

Kind of like how he gutted the preclearance section of the VRA by arguing in part that the other section was sufficient to protect minority rights… and then gutted the other section, too.

Even when they pretended to be separate, it was farcical. I read about how one candidate obsessively adhered to her online-posted schedule specifically so that her supporting super PAC would coincidentally be at her events, too.

Unless it specifically says it's vegetarian on the menu, there's a good chance that it isn't (e.g., the potatoes are fried in lard or something).

I don't think SCOTUS can offer much clarity. What is and isn't "fair use" is a spectrum and AI is stretching the fuzzy middle of that spectrum in ways we didn't imagine even a few years ago.

Pé 🍺🧿 @forevernever.bsky.social · 3h
Yeah, there are also very specific facts to this case which make it not very useful for authors/artists, like how ROSS was spinning up a competitor to Westlaw by using Westlaw's summaries...
041
Pé 🍺🧿 @forevernever.bsky.social · 3h
They trained on copyrighted summaries to establish a competing product, *after* they surreptitiously gained access to the summaries because they were denied direct access. Of course it's obviously not fair use! It unfortunately gets harder when there's no direct competing product involved.

I believe there's a chance that Trump is going to try to nuke a US city

From the info I can find, online is only allowable if it's within 1 year of expiration, which will definitely put me in the mandatory Trumpy passport window.

tbh, I'm sort of shocked he hasn't woken up one morning and decided to nuke the city i live in.

I have to renew my passport in mid-2029... and I doubt that'll be enough time (assuming a Dem wins in 2028) to strip his ugly face off of it. I may just pretend to lose it sometime next year instead.

I dunno, I'd make a big deal that the Patriot Act, the 2000s era tax cuts, the endless war authorizations, etc, were literally championed by a pedophile.

He was two heartbeats from the Presidency for 8 years. He shepherded all of GWBush's destructive legislation through the House. And repeatedly said his experience as a high school coach, when he sexually assaulted children, guided his politics.

There is no such thing as a right which isn't "abstract". A right is intended to protect you against a concrete *harm*, but the right itself is an abstraction; it doesn't actually exist, it is just words on a piece of paper.
2191
Pé 🍺🧿 @forevernever.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
All rights are "abstract"; they're things which our intellect has created to structure a society and protect ideals we think are important. That we call some rights inalienable, natural or whatever is just adding another level of abstraction.
1332
Pé 🍺🧿 @forevernever.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Religious liberty is a far more abstract right than something that literally happens to one's body.

Even assuming Democrats get any remotely-progressive legislation through the Senate filibuster, it'll hit the reactionary chainsaw of SCOTUS, which has (often without explanation) endorsed nearly all of Trump's abuses of power.
091
Pé 🍺🧿 @forevernever.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
If you're a liberal/progressive/leftist, you are completely justified in being completely perplexed how Trump could turn the entire federal government into a deportation machine within 6 months following a <1.5% popular vote victory, while Obama's biggest achievement was Obamacare.

The Democrats' first big 2029 idea is… social media reform which seems designed to attract Republican support.
1110
Pé 🍺🧿 @forevernever.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I 100% believe that 2029/30, assuming Democrats romp this year and in 2028, will be as frustrating as 2009/10, when Democrats' huge Senate majority wasn't enough to push through deep structural reforms. Maybe it'll be different this time, but the preliminary signs aren't great!

We shouldn't view the world through the prism of US politics. Trump is a symptom of a worldwide resurgence in fascism (which likely has its roots in the social upheavals caused by climate change), not a cause or even necessarily an inspiration.
