It was hard to focus on the job when the stench surrounding them was just so thick.

It wasn't as though the stench was new or unexpected — Wydheart had grown up haunting the streets the same as any other worn-down Ul'dahn looked upon unfavorably by the Traders. The miasma of filth, the unique bouquet of urine, vomit, and the mundane patina of sweat and dirt that overtook any being unlucky enough to be unwashed long enough. So pedestrian, so ordinary… so why was it bothering him now?

The stage was the same. The role he played upon it however…

Could a simple change in perspective really make something so familiar unbearable now?

Perhaps the frustration shows on his face.

The uncomfortable grit of sand dampened by the naked cold of a natural stream isn't exactly unfamiliar to Xenoir, but he's been spoiled by ever-warm baths and silky soaps and luxurious oils. He can feel his lips stretch taut against his teeth with every frigid splash against his skin, his eyes involuntarily squeezing shut against the errant arid wind. Adventuring was an unnatural lifestyle to him and every reminder of what comfort he sacrifices day after day in the name of people he truly could not give less of a care about only steels his heart more against the very concept of altruism.

When his eyes peel back open, lids heavy with dried salt and resentment, his gaze drifts over to meet Ilberd's.

He must be imagining the look of disgust there.

While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvořák had absorbed their "spirit" before writing his own melodies. Dvořák stated:
