September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which honours Survivors of residential schools and the children who never returned home and to recognize the long-lasting effects that residential schools have had on Indigenous people.

Beyond the Body: Forensic Nurses in Death Investigation Death investigation is not just the work of coroners and pathologists. Forensic nurses bring clinical insight, trauma-informed practice, & a holistic understanding of the person behind the case, yet they remain largely invisible in this space.

June 6th marks Blue Jean Jacket Day, a day to raise awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous men and boys. In 2020, Indigenous men were seven times more likely to die by homicide than non-Indigenous men in Canada.

Some provinces and Government of Canada, recognize May as Sexual Assault Awareness Month/Sexual Violence Prevention Month. Sexual violence can impact anyone. In every field of practice, nurses and other health professionals may encounter and work with victims of sexual assault.

The Canadian Forensic Nurses Association (CFNA) expresses profound sadness following the death of Alex Pretti, RN, on January 24, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. By all accounts, Mr. Pretti was an intensive care nurse dedicated to caring for others, particularly during times of vulnerability.
