Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Yep. The problem is that having exactly the required number of TDs to form a government will result in a very unstable one. They’ll need a buffer of 5+ TDs at least, so they’ll be looking for around 7/8 people in total. 020
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Interesting to see that Fianna Fáil have the lowest vote share in history in the #GE24, yet they’re the largest party. We need a plan and we need to get young people voting again. Make Youngins’ Vote Again! MYVA doesn’t really have a ring to it, though, does it? 072
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024These next few years could very well be a turning point in Irish politics. A strong opposition from SF, SD, LAB, etc could pave the way for a realistic government without FFG. In 2016 SF, SD and LAB had a combined total of 33 seats. Today they’ll have 59. Change takes time, but it’s coming. 021
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024With the Soc Dems performing well, and Labour having a great election, the possibility of an actual alternative to government is looking promising. Sinn Féin will need to engage in an actual strategy with the left the next time around. Vote Left Transfer Left isn’t enough. 110
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024I know this isn’t the result that most of us wanted, but I’m feeling oddly positive about the lay of the land after that election. The far right have been annihilated. We’ve lost some good TDs, but we’ve gained some good ones, too. The left is beginning to take a more solid shape. #GE24 130
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Agreed. I don’t agree with him on most things, but I moved from X to get away from the childish insults. People can disagree without being horrible about it. 110
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Saying unity could be achieved by 2030 is very different from prioritising unity over other important issues. I am a Sinn Féin member, and I can assure you that none of us were told that. SF is a republican party. Unity will always be important, but not at the expense of important social issues. 100
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024I’m not sure there’ll be much disappointment in the Sinn Féin camp tbh. Of course, they would have liked an overwhelming mandate, but comparing this to the Locals and Europeans just a few months ago, where they struggled for 11% of the vote, this was a solid performance. 010
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024With context, there will always be excuses. The fact remains, seats are what matters and Sinn Féin look set to be the second largest party in the Dáil. Does that mean it’s been a good election for them? Not necessarily, but that same logic has to apply across the board. 000
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 02/12/2024Irish unity wasn’t a message at all in their campaign to be fair. They focused on housing, healthcare and making life easier for low and middle income earners. There’s plenty of things that SF can improve on, but I really don’t think the Irish unity message is one of them. 100
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 01/12/2024I don’t think so, personally. I feel like Sinn Féin took the brunt of the far right, and despite the warnings, people have now realised that a vote for the far right is a vote for FFG. I can see SF gains next time, but I’d like to see a solid left bloc, too. 120
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Im predicting Sinn Féin ending on 39 or 40 seats. If that pans out, this will be their record: 2016: 23 seats. 2020: 37 seats. 2024: 39-40 seats. Fine Gael? 2016: 47 seats. 2020: 35 seats. 2024: 35-36 if they’re lucky. Tell me again who’s losing here? #GE24 193

Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 29/11/2024Here’s my game plan: Exit poll shows Sinn Féin and the left having an incredible election. Me: Yes, I knew the Irish people would come through! Exit poll shows Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil having an incredible election. Me: The exit polls aren’t accurate. Never believe the polls. #GE24 150
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 29/11/2024Just back from the polling station in Fingal West. Busier than I’ve seen it in any election before. Seems like turnout is increasing with people returning from work. Get out and vote if you haven’t already!! #GE24 251

Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 29/11/2024I bumped into a fella I knew from school on the way to the polling station this morning. “Ah” says he “I voted for your man from the Freedom Party”. “Right” says I. “Yeah, handy that you can do it online now”. “Can you?” “Yep. Elon got it sorted on X”. “Ah” says I, “that’s nice”. #GE24 010

Reposted by JordanGavan Reilly @gavreilly.com · 28/11/2024Reminder: Ireland’s PR-STV electoral system not only allows you to support the candidates you like - but also to punish the ones you don’t. If there’s a candidate(s) you despise, you can promote *literally everyone else* ahead of them by giving those rivals all the preferences on your ballot paper. 1528180
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 28/11/2024It’s time to get rid of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil. Let’s be the change we want to see in the world. Let Sinn Féin lead a government of parties who care about us, not themselves. #VoteLeftTransferLeft #GE24 000

Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 27/11/2024Dear Santa Claus, All I want for Christmas is a government made up of Sinn Féin, The Social Democrats and People Before Profit. I’ve been very good this year. P.S If Simon Harris and Michaél Martin lost their seats, I wouldn’t be upset, either. Thanks. #GE24 140
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Correct. The idea is that you give preferences to everybody who you can stomach. So, even though I can’t stand the Fine Gael candidate in my area, I’ll give her a very low preference and leave the far right candidate blank, because I’d still rather her than him. 020
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Yes. If there’s a candidate that you absolutely do not want your vote to go to, leave them blank. Even though it’s unlikely, people have been elected on the 15th/16th count, so it’s not impossible that your vote could elect somebody you don’t like if you give them a preference. 010
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 26/11/2024I’d argue that you’re better off voting SF #1 if the candidate is popular in the area. With any luck, they’ll be elected early on, and transfers will go to the smaller candidate who will benefit in later counts. 010
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 26/11/2024I always get mine about two weeks out, but nobody I know has received theirs, either. 030
Jordan @foreire.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Fine Gael having an absolute nightmare of a #GE24 campaign. With another poll coming tomorrow, which will capture the whole aftermath of the Simon Harris incident over the weekend, will it go from bad to worse? Here’s hoping 🤞 082
