Small package. Big impact. Voluntary contraception advances human rights and helps protect our climate and biodiversity. Removing barriers to family planning strengthens climate resilience while giving people the freedom to choose their futures. #WorldContraceptionDay

What can a country do?
The recommendation in a nutshell: It is in each country's self-interest to build a cross-cutting task force specifically to inquire whether its economic strategy has a resource security blind spot

Ecological Footprint - Global Footprint Network
The Ecological Footprint measures how fast we consume resources and generate waste compared to how fast nature can absorb our waste and generate resources.

They are running an “ecological deficit.” When a country’s biocapacity is greater than its population’s Ecological Footprint, on the other hand, the country boasts an “ecological reserve.” overshoot.footprintnetwork.org/newsroom/eod...

Global Footprint Network @footprintnetwork.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
We need food, shelter & more to survive. Our planet’s ecological resources helps. But how many do we consume? Answer=Ecological Footprint. On the map, many countries are “in the red,” meaning they use more natural resources (#EcologicalFootprint) than their ecosystems can regenerate (biocapacity).

Earth Overshoot Day over time
July 24th is Earth Overshoot Day this year. Carbon emissions continue to be the largest contributor pushing the Ecological Footprint further above the planet’s annual budget

Global Footprint Network @footprintnetwork.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
This #overshoot occurs because people emit more CO₂ than the biosphere can absorb, use more freshwater than is replenished, harvest more trees than can regrow, fish quicker than stocks replenish, etc. This overuse beyond what nature can renew inevitably depletes Earth’s natural capital.
