I did a 5:30 AM shift at the @foodcoop.bsky.social this morning. Another middle-aged dad and I were unloading boxes of veggies, and he asked me, "So, did you read the Dario Amodei essay yet?" Not, "Do you know who Dario Amodei is", not, "Did you read that essay?" It was "Did you read it yet?"

These end of season Keitts come from the Los Mochis region of Mexico. This sanctioned “fruit fly free” zone, means these are the only imported mangos we receive all year not dipped in a hot water bath to control against pests. They ripen a little longer on the vine as a consequence…enjoy!

In the latest Gazette letters section, one of our staff produce coordinators addresses packaging concerns for our fruit & veg linewaitersgazette.com/2026/08/18/august-18-2026-letters/
“We're always trying to balance a lot of different priorities, including price, quality, local sourcing, organic options, convenience, and environmental impact. But above all, we pay close attention to what members actually buy-and that data directly shapes our purchasing decisions.
The packaged produce we carry reflects genuine member demand. For example, we offer both loose and packaged spinach side by side, and members choose the packaged spinach by about 3 to 1. That purchasing pattern tells us what our members prioritize. We stock to meet those real needs while minimizing waste, not the other way around.”
