As an unwelcome guest on an airboat junket with lobbyists for data centers, fossil fuels, and forever chemicals, I captured this coyote running a couple of miles inside the Great Salt Lake, because the Lake is now so shallow and dried-out.

PFAS harms our communities in more ways than you think...

Our F Minus Director James Browning (Brown '91) said he was going back to Brown to talk about climate, but new photos show that he was just hanging out with Bruno the Brown mascot. Hmm.

ZERO climate and public health organizations should be employing lobbyists that work for the Fossil Fuel industry. Will stand on the side of transparency and integrity and pledge to drop American Chemistry Council Lobbyists? actionnetwork.org/forms/divest...

When even a “green” state says no to a PFAS ban (looking at you California!), we need to follow the money... AND the LOBBYISTS. Oregon’s public institutions can lead where California stumbled. #PFASBan #CleanLobbying #ProtectKids

“It’s cynical and sick that the same lobbyists who helped convince Gov. Newsom to veto this PFAS ban actually lobbied for the ban at the same time on behalf of water agencies and other clients who desperately need help cleaning up PFAS,” -James Browning, Executive Director | F Minus

Elon Musk caused the harm. Now his lobbyists are charging your community to clean it up.

Today F Minus launched a database of every Congressional and state lobbying firm that works for Elon Musk. Many of these firms also lobby on behalf of mainstream and progressive clients being devastated by DOGE. Explore the Musk lobbyist list here: fminus.org/lobbyist-cat... #teslatakedown

Brown & Weinraub's own website exposes their duplicity on climate. The firm touts its work for e-bikes and e-scooters, which is completely in conflict with its client work aiming to block the Climate Change Superfund Act and other bills.
Image of Brown & Weinraub's climate commitments laid out on its website. The firm touts that "We’re particularly proud of the work we continue to do to advance the alternative energy sector in New York State including having helped established the residential solar program, laying the groundwork for a wind farm off the coast of Long Island, managing the transition from older generation methods to new, cleaner technologies and promotion of electric vehicles, including scooters and e-bikes, as well as the infrastructure to charge them." In reality, the firm also makes a lot of money lobbying for the fossil fuel industry, making their lobbying agenda an inherent conflict of interests among clients.

Further, Brown & Weinraub maintains Costco as a client, a company which states that it believes in a “just transition” in response to the #climatecrisis in its published climate commitments. There is no just transition if we don’t #MakePollutersPay for the #climate loses & damages they created.
Image from Costco's climate commitment page on its website, with an Asian man depicted at top right and a headline reading "We Believe in a Just Transition." Expanding on this headline, Costco states that, "We align our decarbonization objectives with our commitments to human rights, diversity, equity and inclusion, life above land and below water, water conservation and waste reduction. That's because we believe our transition to a low carbon business model also should represent a just transition for our employees, members, suppliers and the communities we serve."

The firm also represents publisher Houghton Mifflin, which publishes a bounty of books in support of #climateaction, including the 2016 book depicted here. Yet the firm simltaneously lobbies for Shell, a Koch Industries subsidiary, American Petroleum Institute, & handfuls of others.

Many of these lobbyists backing #fossilfuels also work for clients who purport to be green. Brown & Weinraub represents Google, for example, as referenced above. Google is a sustainability leader within Big Tech.
An image of Google's pledged climate change commitments from its website, which reads, "At Google, our goal is to achieve net-zero emissions across all of our operations and value chain by 2030. We aim to reduce 50% of our combined Scope 1, 2 (market-based), and 3 absolute emissions (compared to our 2019 base year) by 2030, and plan to invest in nature-based and technology-based carbon removal solutions to neutralize our remaining emissions.

Our net-zero goal is supported by an ambitious clean energy goal to operate our offices and data centers on 24/7 carbon-free energy, such as solar and wind.1

In our third decade of climate action, we continue to take a science-based approach to our efforts, while sharing our own lessons and progress with others. We’re working toward this goal in two key ways: first, we’re focused on reducing emissions across our operations and value chain (including advancing 24/7 carbon-free energy), and after reducing our emissions as much as possible, we’re addressing our residual emissions with carbon removals."

NY's #fossilfuel lobbying firms, like Brown & Weinraub, are desperately trying — though the #MakePollutersPay movement has different plans in mind — to keep Gov. Hochul from signing the Climate Change Superfund Act.

What’s going on in #NewYork with the Climate Superfund Act? Just Google it. It's time to #MakePollutersPay.

Outrageously, though, this same thing happens every day in statehouses nationwide, where F Minus has exposed more than 1500 #fossilfuel lobbyists who also lobby fors environmental groups andmunicipalities impacted by #climatechange, educational bodies tasked with acting on #climate, etc.
Graphic from the organization F Minus shows that there are 1,178 shared fossil fuel lobbyists with the healthcare industry at the state level, 689 between government and fossil fuel lobbyists, 291 between environmental lobbyists and fossil fuels, and 874 between educational interests and fossil fuels. That includes groups like the American Cancer Society, the City of Pittsburgh, The Nature Conservancy, and NYU School of Medicine all sharing lobbyists with firms that also represent the fossil fuel industry. The graphic reads that after year one of F Minus' coming into being, the group is "Exposing the lobbyists representing the Fosill Fuel companies and their victims." It is a white backdrop with red trimming, the same color of F Minus' logo

That's because LA County uses lobbying firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, which also lobbies for Western Independent Refiners in CA. The firm also lobbies for Brightline Defense, a Bay Area environmental justice group. It's time advocating for climate justice to ditch their fossil fuel lobbyists.

Ventura County's Mountain Fire burned neaarly 20,000 acres and destroyed nearly 200 structures, including dozens of homes. Nextdoor Los Angeles County arguably aided in fueling the fire, though, despite its carbon neutrality by 2050 goal and interim goals in between.

This raises Q: will #Chicago divorce itself from its fossil fuel lobbyists? Or remain part of metaphorical "fourth house," another conflict of interest fueling state's "culture of corruption." Even if the state continues along the path, Chicago can lead by divesting from its fossil fuel lobbyists.

The city’s pension fund shares a lobbying firm w/ Phillips 66, another company named in the suit. Lobbying firm Phelps Barry also represents U of IL, which has come under increasing pressure to divest from fossil fuels from campus activists.
