I'd recommend it to anyone curious. It's a bit slow and dry at first, but I don't see it at all as a vehicle for proselytizing or a mouthpiece for conservative values. It's much more of a queer coming of age with some magical realism tossed in. My Ex-Mormon/ raised religious friends related a lot.
