That's just it: the main function of laws/rules is to organize the actions of the people in the system. People can defect by breaking the rules, so systems must be made resilient by splitting the authority into separate power centers that can advocate for themselves. Laws aren't strong on their own.

At this point, I would only support a public healthcare system with state or semi-private financial controls that ensure that GAC, reproductive care, etc. remain accessible regardless of the feds or other states. It needs to be structured in a way that ensures e.g. RFK can't ruin it everywhere.

The expression "quitting cold turkey" implies the possibility of quitting hot turkey, or maybe cold ham. In this essay, I propose a new expression, "quitting cold tofurkey": pretending to quit something cold turkey by substituting it with something equivalent.

It's very common for white supremacists and other far rightists to "hide their [white] power level" by pretending to be "apolitical" or politically neutral. They'll still try to steer everyone they meet towards reich wing extremism, they're just very careful to do it in a sneaky way.

I'm not seeing how it's a misnomer. People are cisgender when their sex and gender are on the same side of the spectrum. Orientation and frequency are irrelevant. Also, it's more like 97-99% by self-report depending on age.

I don't care for the "socialism is when the government spends money" paradigm. I'm more about accountability and division of power. My major change was from Lockean(-ish) rationalism to a kind of political ecology. Words on a page can't self-enforce. The public needs a good compellance strategy.

I started out as a civil libertarian in highschool and became more accepting of public utilities & such in undergrad. Bloomberg going down in flames seemed to refute the "buying elections" thing, but the direct influence since made me suspicious of wealth. I'm a liberal/libertarian socialist now.

The assumption that "fewer people=more resources per person" is incorrect. You need people to acquire, process, etc. resources for them to be accessible to anyone, and people can produce more than they consume. The problem is rent seeking by people who own and consume without producing much.
