It's late and suddenly I realize: I need to post an image! Did I take any today? I seriously forget sometimes. Turns out I did — a couple from waiting for the kids after school. The graffiti practice wall again. Meh… I don't like the images, but do I want to find something at home to photograph, right now? No. So, the above image it is. A successful day in general. Photographically, not at all.

Slackline.

Came home from my evening walk with a rare color image. Incidentally, this is almost the same as [the first ever color image on this blog](/2018-11-22). Slightly different perspective due to the wider lens and different time of day.

Not super windy, but we managed to fly [the new kites](/2026-09-26) nonetheless!

Zero wind at the kite festival. Such a pity. All those colorful contraptions – grounded. Bought two kites for the girls. (Probably way overpriced, but who's checking Amazon? I won't dare…) I find [the second image](#slide-2) very amusing. The guy in [the fifth image](#slide-5) was the only one who managed to fly his – extremely lightweight – kite, but only for a little while. * * * I enjoyed being out with the family and getting some photography time in and I learned something about gliders – the location is usually their airstrip.

Took a slightly different route to the office this morning and enjoyed the light. _Made_ lots of [A41](/collection/a41) images, of which this one above I liked the most.

The kids created a TV set with remote control and a Nintendo Switch with a Pro controller from some of the cardboard we had left over from the bookshelf we set up [yesterday](/2026-09-21).

Set up a proper bookshelf today, so all our books – including my photo books – finally moved out of the closet and into the open.

Lots of chestnuts are falling in the backyard. It is a proper safety hazard to go out there and collect them!

Spent pretty much the whole day outside with the little one.

We came past the graffiti practice wall again. Briefly talked to the guy working on a piece there and found out that, with ~4.50 € per spray can, this is quite an expensive hobby/way to express yourself creatively. (He needs at least 3-4 cans for a wall of this size.) That is almost as expensive as film photography! 😂

Went swimming with the kids for the second day in a row.

I started _documenting_ (whatever that means) the streets we walk every day. I have nothing else to photograph at the moment. 🤷‍♂️

This is my wife's _Gedankenkiste_ (German for _box of thoughts_). It was one of my first presents to her (the box with the stenciled title) as a container for her diaries. It currently contains almost 28 years of handwritten diaries. She has tried many formats and notebooks over the years and it is a proper ritual every time a new one is prepared and the current one is archived. I'll probably have to get her another box soon.

It rained almost the whole day. There was a break in the late afternoon, which I used to head out with my camera. My headphones on with some music playing, I felt kinda inspired. (Although I recently heard someone say, that there is no such thing as inspiration and that you should just go out and _play_.) I walked these same streets hundreds – if not thousands – of times, but different things catch my eye every time – well at least when I am in _photography mode_. If my mind is occupied with other things, such as family or work, I don't _see_ immediately and it takes some time to get into it. That's why it is more difficult to get photos I like during the week. Today though, I took the first image literally five seconds after I left the house.

Spent the day outside with the family and some friends. A rule is a rule: when you see a mirror (or a reflection), you take a selfie. I took two today!

Hung out at the playground after school – again. Between work and this new school thing for the little one, there's very little time for photography. Well, little _dedicated photography time_™. Let's hope for the weekend! 🤞

First school week is almost in the books for the little one. So far so good… 🙂 Hung out (heh!) at the playground for a little bit on our way home.

Bird feet. My daughter actually spotted the bird's _shadowy imprints_ showing through the awning above us yesterday, when we left the restaurant where we celebrated her first day at school. I like it a lot. Made me think of [the second shot in this post](https://florianziegler.com/journal/nyc-street) of some street photos I took way back in the day during a trip to New York. How is this 12 years ago? Time is weird.

Suvi started school today, and I can only [repeat myself](https://florian.photo/2023-08-08) in being in awe of how this happened [so fast](/2019-12-20).

Back to school today. Tomorrow, both our children will be in school! 😱 How did this happen so fast?! Photo taken during my morning commute.

Back in the office today, lots of work. Did not take any images, so I present to you the latest addition to our plant family courtesy of [Daniel](https://polaroids.danielpietzsch.com/) and family for our housewarming party a couple of weeks ago.

Taxi sign. * * * Not much happened today. Worked some, helped with the move some more. Didn't take any photos outside, thus the above one from yesterday.

Was busy most of the day helping with my mother-in-law's move. (Pretty much the same move across the street we did at the beginning of the year, so we are _in practice_.) I only was able to get out to take some photos pretty late. Saw these amazing colors in the sky and went up onto a parking deck to get a better vantage point to _make_ the images above. Only saw the huge moon when I turned around. Pity, I didn't bring a longer lens. Love the glow in those metallic chimneys. * * * Today marks this blog's [10 year](/hello-world) anniversary! 🤯 It actually took me 2,590 days to manage [a (first) full year](https://florianziegler.com/journal/365-days-of-daily-posting/) without missing a single day. I mean [that was the original idea](https://florianziegler.com/journal/a-photo-a-day), but actually doing it was really hard. Sometimes it still is. Anyway! To commemorate this _momentous_ occasion I am putting the finishing touches on a zine, with around 100 images from these last ten years. Another movie night – this time in a proper cinema. I can't even remember the last time I went to the cinema, must have been years! We saw "[The End of Oak Street](https://letterboxd.com/film/the-end-of-oak-street/)". I was entertained.

Had a great birthday out photographing with the girls. ❤️ (It was their idea!)

Back to the regular daily grind, I guess. Today was a travel day. Made it back home safely and smoothly. Perfect weather for a final day at the beach! * * * I should mention this more often: I am in the process of finishing my 10th anniversary zine – to celebrate this blog turning 10 years old in just a couple of days (on the 26th). Spent the first half of the day at the [Marine Museum](https://www.marinemuseum.nl/en/), which has an actual submarine (the [Tonijn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HNLMS_Tonijn)) you can walk through (and [lie in the bunks](#slide-5)). It was very dark inside, many [blurry images](#slide-4) (I like this one, though). Lots of [interactivity](#slide-7) for the kids. A good place to spend a [rainy day](#slide-6). My favorite was the [mock-white shark](#slide-1) around a random corner! Of course we had to get closer and take some [shark portraits](#slide-9).

Took a trip to Texel today, visited [Ecomare](https://www.ecomare.nl/en/), saw the [baby seals](#slide-4) and the [lighthouse](#slide-6) at the northern tip of the island. ~~Shot~~ photographed lots of seagulls that were flying along the ferry on the way to and from the island.

Spent the morning inside and the afternoon at an indoor swimming pool. Had some dedicated photography time to myself in the evening, hence more photos from the beach. (Please bear with me while I savor being at the ocean. 🙂)

Another day at the beach. We had some light rain, but nothing our [beach tents](#slide-4) couldn't handle! * * * I am in the process of finalizing the images for the 10th anniversary zine! It is currently at 132 pages and 90+ photos, which span across the last (first) 10 years of this here blog. I started writing a little _preamble_ today, a short intro. Not sure this is something others are interested in having. If so – <a href="mailto:hello@florianziegler.com?subject=Interested in the 10th anniversary zine">let me know</a>!

Spent another day at the beach. (I could get used to that!) Loved the light and the colors today, thus – a [color](/collection/color) post. 🤷‍♂️ I brought some more gear on this trip – as in a couple of longer lenses – because, why not?! No need to travel light, when going by car – but I haven't taken that much equipment in a long time. Usually it's down to one or two prime lenses and that's it. Happy I made that choice.

Vacation has officially started. 🥳 We made it to another ocean (after [21 weeks](/2026-03-21)). The weather forecast for the coming week is not super great, but I take it – it was dry long enough. And some clouds in the sky make for more dramatic images anyway! Looking forward to an easy photo blogging week. 😊

I intend to [make](https://mastodon.social/@florianziegler/117075690879403503) a picture of the ocean tomorrow. Not today, though. Today it's a parking garage.
