- User Aegnus was initially banned for engaging with the Wiki in bad faith. It was decided after a 2nd look that the user had been a constructive commenter and prolific translator, and there were grounds to reverse their ban. As in, only high engagement is an indicator of good faith interaction. /7

Following a secondary review, Disciplinary determined that Aegnus was engaging in good faith when voting on SCP-268-J.

A large piece of evidence used in determining their ban was that out of the 315 votes they had given on the EN wiki, 170 were placed on 25 May, 2024, 4 days after joining EN.

However, upon further review, Disciplinary noted their positive engagement through comments, and their frequent translation of pages from EN to CN. We believe that this engagement in good faith over multiple years offsets any suspected misbehavior, and as such, have decided to reverse their ban.

They have been informed as such, and are free to rejoin the EN wiki at any time.

Since the bans went into effect, a few of them had updates: - User Kanie Ja successfully appealed their 3-month ban. It has since been lifted. - User TomJens, who translated SCP-268-J into Chinese from English, was identified as having been erroneously banned. The ban was reversed. 6/

On 7/22, the disciplinary team received an appeal from the user via PM.

Following the appeal, disciplinary reviewed their voting activity, and compared it to the claims in the appeal. Based on comments made, and a sporadic but consistent pattern of voting and commenting on both the CN and EN wiki, Disciplinary determined that the user in question voted in good faith, and did not intentionally brigade or manipulate the vote total.

As such, their ban appeal has been accepted, and the ban has been lifted. The user has been PMed, and they are welcome to reapply and rejoin the wiki at any time.

Re-applied, rejoined site.

Following a secondary review, Disciplinary determined that TomJens did not participate in the brigade, nor vote manipulation. Disciplinary realized after the fact that they were the translator of SCP-268-J, and had voted on the page prior to the translation being posted.

As such, Disciplinary has elected to reverse their ban. They are free to rejoin the EN wiki at any time.

To be clear: The crux of brigading as a rule on the SCP Wiki goes back to when it was first introduced as a disciplinary standard after the 2018 anti-Pride Month raids, and it hinges on identifying any number of people as belonging to a coherent "group". It's a rule that *only* groups can break.

"Per the site rules:

Brigading: Calling for group downvoting (or group upvoting) of an article is prohibited. Being part of a vote brigade may lead to a ban.
Note: Not every call to check out an article by someone who dislikes it is brigading. Context and intent will determine whether or not an incident is considered brigading.

Due to the inherent difficulties in ascertaining whether someone is privately calling for a brigade, context and circumstances are used in determining whether a brigade has occurred, and staff found that it was unlikely the voting behavior was organic based off the user's previous voting history on EN.

Organized voting behaviour to artificially increase or decrease an article’s score is considered brigading and is grounds for disciplinary actions, up to and including a permaban. Both users in this screenshot are among the 18 who received a 3-month blanket ban, ostensibly for upvoting a single SCP article. The 3rd user mentioned, TomJens, who translated the article into Chinese from English, was also banned. However you slice it, I think SCP's Disc Team made a misstep here.

Person 1 says: "Throughout the whole exchange with the Researcher, SCP-682 stays totally calm and matter-of-fact. That right there? That’s the core of a mother’s strength and dignity – even if someone knocks you up, that’s your call. You just lay it out there, cool as a cucumber, and make damn sure your own life stays on track.
